Updated photos and info below. Two Light Brahmas at four weeks is first, then the LBs at 6 weeks along with their Astralorp/Jersey sister at 6 weeks, and their EE sister at 7 weeks of age.

Well, I've been trying to read up on Light Brahmas, to see if my suspicions were correct about my chicks, but I'm getting mixed readings. Red comb early usually means roo, but so does slow feathering. The same way that yellow comb means pullet and so does quick feathering. But I've got these two Light Brahma peeps, both four weeks old, and obviously one of these things just doesn't belong here (I can't have a rooster). What are your takes on these little guys? The first one is Pepper Potts. He/she is very skittish and hates being handled. The second is Tony Stark and he or she is very docile. I don't know if that's indicative of anything, though. Maybe I should be switching their names around.

Okay, here are the new photos:

First up is Turnip, the ~7 week old EE/Ameraucana. She was in a sexed pullets bin at the feed store, but her comb is developing faster than our other EE's, so I'm getting worried. Any ideas?

Here's the Australop. Or Jersey Giant. She was labeled Australorp, but her feet have yellow bottoms so I don't know. She's also afraid of the camera and this is the only half-way decent picture I could get of her. She looks pretty pullet-ish though.

This is Tony again. Huge puffball. She feathered extremely fast, but her comb also pinked up at four weeks and I see peeping wattles. But it doesn't look like there's any room for point saddle feathers on her.

Here's Pepper again at six weeks. Mostly feathered, though her feathers are shorter and still kind of growing in along her shoulders and neck and face. Less pink of a comb. She's super flighty and doesn't like being handled very much.

I would say wait another 2 weeks. They are still pretty young to tell gender. The one with not so much feathering may be just a runt pullet... I don't know, give it a bit more time.

Updated at about six weeks. =) With a couple others. We have Wyandottes too, but they're not showing anything abnormal to pullets yet since they're only 3-4 weeks old.

I'm going to say Tony & Turnip are looking a bit boy-ish in the combs. Brahmas are actually reversed on feathering. Males are fast feathering & females are slow for that particular breed.

The Wyandottes look exactly the same as far as feathering and comb. Slightly pink combs and I can see the teeny tiny point that will be the back tip. I can't imagine we pulled two roos out of a pullet bin, so I'm leaning towards pullets for them.

I'm still hoping for pullets for the Brahmas, but I see what you guys are saying. I'm just not sure where the pointy saddle feathers are even going to come in on Tony. She's so fully feathered that there's no room! Also I found this:

And it looks a lot like mine. So is there stilla chance?
