Well, that was a eventful ride home, one hen flew out the box and nearly got out the window on a busy road! But luckily I decided to sit next to them and got a hold of her in time!! Then they were all boiling so I had all the windows down, the air thing on and then stopped and opened the doors for them! Once we got back one girl went straight in the nest box and the other 2 went for food. I left the pop hole open because I thought "they are ex batts they wont go outside yet" but I came back up from the stream and one girl was out alone getting ready to fight two of my hens! and then she started heading out for the field so I scooped her up and put her back in the shed (I don't want to let them out until Saturday). Ten minutes later the hen who went in the nest box popped a egg out! I can tell already they have character!

Good for you. Now they can start to have a real chicken life.

It will be interesting to see the feathers grow in and shine with a better feed. Everything will be a first for them. Post some more pictures down the line so we can see em. Please.

Thanks, and I will! You should check out some of my other rescue threads, had before and after pics on :):

My other rescue threads were deleted but they are all moulded into this one :)

We had a couple of production reds, and they were such characters! So funny to hear about the feisty one preparing to fight the other hens. Great job, and look forward to hearing more.

Amazing, so glad you got them and they can experience being a chicken. I hope you post pics of their adventures and how much better they will look with your tlc!

They are desperate to get out, so impacient! They will be going out tomorrow though :) :

Good for you. Production Reds are beautiful hens once they get some weight and new feathers. they only lay til their ovaries run out of eggs, maybe 2 years tops, but my oldest lived to be a bit over 3. She needed a little help getting around the last week or 2 and she would squawk at me so I could carry her back to the coop after she free ranged.

I have 2 ex battery hens who are 7! One still lays 4 eggs a week!
