Chicken mating thread !!!

I can speak from experience I have had two brother roosters attempt to defend my flock from two coyotes they got one rooster before I could scare them off but the Roos were definitely going after the coyotes giving the hens time to run
I'm not trying to butt in or offend anyone just sharing my experience! :)

Hi everybody. Gosh i feel so stupid and traumatised at the same time. Im a mom to 4 fluff butts. They are 21 weeks old. 2 lavender cochin bantams and a grey and ginger cochin bantam are the other two. So it was very clear our roo was a roo from fairly young but there i thought we had 3 girls til today i saw my ginger (girl) jumping on my girls backs. He seriously has some looks issues. I have a modern transgender chicken

So would seem i have 2 roos and 2 hens. Our lavender roo crowed first time this morning. Hubby and i were so shocked i roared out door to give them breakfast before the neighbour's heard

. Iv put a diy crow collar on 1 roo. Will see how it works. Trial and error system. I have to say i really feel for my girls. They dont like being jumped on. Lots of protesting. Hard for an overprotective mommy. Will this mating last very long? May need tranquilizers at this point

Um, yeah, it will last long......young cockerels go on and on and on and on...
....and they become sexually mature younger than the pullets, so are trying to mate the pullets before they are ready to be mated.

Multiple males often creates an environment of competition that can make them both more aggressive.
2 cockerels and 2 pullets is not a good ratio....you might seriously consider getting rid of one or both males....or separating the males from the females until the females are ready to be mated.

So far there isnt any agression in the boys towards one another but im worried there will be

Maybe having just two girls would be easier. Im so stressed out about the girls getting hurt. I told hubby earlier i want to add an area onto coop and run tomorrow so i can seperate the boys and girls. Thanks so much for your advice! Ur a star!

These are all the breeds of chicken I have ordered from MPC, obviously all brown egg layers except the leg horns which lay white. I have ordered 2 roosters being more of a "beauty" breed which I plan to mate with my silver and golden Wyandotte. I dont plan on mixing those roosters with other breeds unless you guys have suggestions for mixing? Only breeds i have ordered though. I am in the pursuit of a 3rd rooster but for more egg laying purpose mating. I don't want another Wyandotte, orpington, or jersey giant rooster because although they are good layers they aren't great. I know if i get a Rhode Island Red I could mate with delaware to get red star sex link chickens, but idk. I need help in choosing a 3rd rooster ,please give suggestions on different roosters and different mixture I can make such as australorp or delware or leghorn or rir or even speckled sussex rooster??? Idk, one I can't get is barred rock because they are out of males for my hatch week. Please help in my choosing of a good egg laying breed rooster! And suggestion for good mixtures of that chosen rooster to other breeds thank you![/quote]
