Pigeon man??

Does anyone remember that nickelodeon cartoon called Hey Arnold? There was an episode where Arnold meets the "pigeon man" a misunderstood man who spends is time alone with no one but his flock of loyal pigeons.

Then I heard about a reallife pigeon man in NY who can be seen cuddling and feeding the pigeons everyday.

My question is, are pigeons realy this loving and loyal? or do they just come for the food?
 
Both! Pigeons love the food and then they see that the human isn't bad either. Those pigeons really look like they love him. I've had pigeons that absolutely LOVED me and some that just wanted food.
 
Ive experimented with this were didn't feed some but let nest, some put nest elsewhere tp raise young, n food elsewhere at night so I'm not associated with feeding, n combos of each and all. pigeons still instinctively came around, especially ones i went to nest and made sound as cuddling, then when flying id call and they'd come for petting. same as stray rabbits cats and especially dogs, all bred for thousands of years being bred by and to associate with us. so instincts tell them to seek us out for some comfort strong as feeding etc even if we don't. I've known pigeons raised that hadn't handled at all and just dumped feed n water in quietly when dark, later them having mates and srill came to me to rub n preen n get belly n face scratched etc. depends on handling in line of bird maybe as some have racers n show birds that cannot handle..

Wow that's amazing. I thought that the only time pigeons weren't afraid of humans was if they imprint on them at a young age. Sounds like their quite amazing animals after all.
 
Think of Austrian dingo how they are very well removed essentially from todays domestic breeds of dogs, some interbreeding with strays occur though, but they seek out humans at beaches n tourist attractions and beg for food or go home with even. they seem to know somehow that they can act playful n submissive etc, then get fed n cared for sometimes. some choosing domestication over wild living (usually unsuitable ones that are injured sick runts young old or know would not make in wild too long for some reason). pigeons maybe same way, as all are feral rock doves from long ago.
