Ok…I just started my warm farm using the 3 drawers. However, I am phobic. The idea of touching them does terrible things to me, but I am determined to be successful at this.
So…what do you use to sift the worms out to feed to your flock?
I've been reading about growing my own meal worms for my flock, I'm interested but I want to know if anyone else has done this and if its worth the effort.
Any thoughts?
Hello
I have a 3 week old Muscovy duckling that has a bit of a crooked leg. She's starting to step on her own feet.
She has been eating non medicated chick feed plus brewer's yeast since day 1. I also started giving adding brewer's yeast to her water when I noticed her starting to step on her...
I'm going to ask a series of questions in this post having to do with the first bunch of weeks of raising chicks. These questions come up due to conflicting information from a variety of sources of my research and talking with the "Chicken Expert" at Tractor Supply (aka TSCE) .
As I stated in...
Hey guys I just wanted to say if you’re not raising your own mealworms yet, get started already!
I wanted to share this video of us getting a shipment of 10,000 mealworms from Rainbow Mealworms. I’m not being paid for this I just wanted to talk up this website because I am really happy with...
Hi all! Background: 3 chickens: one partridge Cochin hen (top of pecking order), a dark Brahma hen (probably bottom of order) and a handicapped dark Brahma rooster. They are going through their first molt (about a year and two months old, southeaster Wisconsin) with the rooster looking the...
Hey y’all!
I’ve got a mealworm farm production going. I’ve gotten all my starter mealworms through the worm stage... I have about 4 or 5 pupae and a boat-load of beetles. I just took all the beetles out of one bin and put them into new quarters. I’m leaving the prior old bin and substrate alone...
I have chickens and fish that I feed meal worms too, but they are rather expensive! Even when buying in bulk. Is it worth growing your own? Does anybody have any experience? What does it consist of? I live in New England, can they survive our harsh winters? Btw, we still have 3 feet of snow...
I have been raising chickens for about 8 years. I have 10 hens now about 1.5 years old. They are confined to a partially covered dirt run and very spacious coop. The run is quite large about 90 feet by about 6-8 feet with plenty of perches and ladders for them to move around in and on. I...
I just went out and nearly fainted dead away from shock at the sight of (I thought) the world's ugliest chicken lurking among my flock! But apparently the scruffy bald look is in at this time of year. Who knew? In the past my girls have always molted with dignity!
Anyway, apparently they...
So I stumbled upon this wonderful website, and I have been poking around a bit and I decided to finally make an account! So, it seems that new people normally do this sorta thing to get them into the community, so YEAH! My questions will be in BOLD
In my chicken life right now, I am planning...
I have a couple game chickens that will be used for some videos later. They are a three year old cock and a pullet just shy of one year. During this effort they will produce a brood to be used for display purposes. We recently constructed a wooden deck on the west end of house that has a...
How to raise mealworms (Tenebrio molitor)
Everyone who has a small flock of chickens should raise mealworms, not because they need them, but because they love them. It's very easy to do and once set up they are virtually maintenance-free and very inexpensive. I give my girls a hand-full or...
