Hey all,
My hen has one random spur and it’s getting long. Should i be concerned? I can trim it if need be - I don’t want her to harm herself and end up with bumble foot. Any advice appreciated. Thx.
While my hens' nails generally get ground down from free ranging, I do trim them every few years. How often do you? I am not referring to rooster spurs.
Francesca is a 4 month old salmon faverolles who came to us about 2 weeks ago along with two penmates (lavender orpington and blue ameraucana) who are thriving. When she arrived she laid down in the run and wouldn’t move, appeared to be depressed, but would eat laying down. She had some mild...
The coturnix quail toenail/beak trimming today did not go so well. They develop these hard balls of debris/poop on their toes, and their feet are so delicate that completely removing these balls isn't really realistic, at least with the tools I have. The quicks in their nails were longer than...

Is there any advice for maintaining a good beak shape? Or do I...
Beaks and Claws...every bird has them! Birds use their beaks for grooming, they explore their environment with their beaks, they can feel textures and temperatures with them, scratch in the dirt for bugs and dust bathing, preen their feathers, pick up objects such as food, nesting materials...
I thought y'all were a little off when talking about trimming chicken butt fluff. Well, I joined you. Had a light red hen that was accumulating quite the poop ball. After a week, it hadn't been shed and I'll blame the cold weather. Finally christened a pair of scissors the poopy butt ball...
Hi everyone! I have a Dominique hen that's three years old and she is growing quite a set of spurs. Every year they seem to get longer. It's starting to affect the way she walks a little bit. She can still walk and run, but she uses more of the outside of her feet, probably to keep herself from...
Hello, I have an ameraucana hen that has a lot of feathers on her cheeks. I wanted some input on whether or not it would be a good idea to trim the feathers down so that she can see better.
