Any one have hip replacement surgery?

In 2004, I had hip repair of a 30 yr old injury that was never discovered. The labrum was torn, nearly completely through, a bone spur had grown on the innermost part of the ball, and a lump on the other side preventing the hip to have good rotation.
So the spur and lump were ground off and the labrum was smoothed over, it was extremely frayed as it had been torn for so long. Surgeon said it may very well have been a 30 year injury by the amount of fray.
It was painful surgery and it took months to heal. And my hip continued to get stronger for the next three years. I was happy the surgery had worked. At the time I was given the choice, hip replacement or try this somewhat new surgery to try and repair. I so wanted it to work!
But pain has returned, and I've been in extensive therapy, massages, adjustments. I finally asked if I could have an MRI, because its just so painful.
The results are showing problem with the hip. My chiropractor says he can not help me and suggests I get an opinion from the ortho and see if hip replacement is what I need. Also said he would refer me for second opinion, but I know in my heart he is right, although I've been denying it for months that it is my hip that hurts.
Did your hip replacement work for you? Is the groin pain gone? What can you do? Think I will be able to ride my horse?

My mom had both of hers done and she was early 50's...that's young for a hip replacement but she had early onset of arthritis with DJD. I was an orthopedic nurse for years before going into home health so guess who her private nurse was, lol. I think you will find you will be able to do most of the things you did before the replacement. The good thing about riding a horse is it puts you in a position that does NOT put pressure on the muscles/ligaments that hold your hip in the socket. Things like crossing your legs or deep squatting positions are what can cause a dislocation. But even dislocations don't happen often.

I am 50. I was 45 when I had my hip repaired. The injury happened when I was 12. The left hip looks normal. I still have to consult an ortho etc, before I will know if hip replacement is necessary. But since that option was given to me in 2004, it may be the only option this time around. No arthritis or anything. Maybe now days they know how to replace only the labrum. The labrum is a small thing like a noodle, it was explained, and it is responsible for keeping the ball in the socket. Sort of like a suction cup thingy. Mine was torn nearly completely through, and it is uncertain whether a recurrent labral tear is present.

I know they are doing partial joint replacements now because I see them after they are home from the hospital...it is amazing how far the joint replacements have come just from when I got out of nursing school in '92.

No but i will get my knee replaced before i turn 40. Old sports injury from long jump.

I have a friend here at school that is 36 and is a PE teacher. She just had one hip replaced this summer and the other done in Nov. She has Lupus and the joints were grinding bone on bone. Because she was expecting the surgery, she readied herself by riding her bike for several miles daily and lifting weights. This helped her tremendously. she also used a doctor in St. Louis MO at university hospital that works with the "younger" patients. although she is still limping due to the groin not being stretched out yet, she is no longer in the constant pain that she was in. Good luck.

I had mine done in may last year.I was awake all thru the operation as due to heart surgery with complications a few years ago i cant have a general anesthetic. i was kept just conscious. no pain at the time but afterwards.wow. i knew all about it. the exercise routine was horrific but after about 12 weeks it all started working properlyu and since then i haven't looked back. pain free when i walk after 3 years of misery when i tried to walk anywhere. i have to have the other hip done inm june this year.
