What is the best type of animal to guard ducks? Not a watchdog like a goose but something that will actually GUARD the ducks.

I've heard that donkeys or mules will kick the living ___ out of a cougar, I bet it would be the same for a cyote or other predator. I also bought operator repellent lights. It think they work pretty good, there has't been any signs of predators recently though. Good luck, and cover your coop for birds. Avery

What is an LGD?

An LGD is a Livestock Guardian Dog. LGD bond to their animals and protect them with their life. A well- bred, well- trained LGD is the best at its job. Predators stay away on purpose because undoubtedly there are easier prey elsewhere. There are donkeys etc. which are territorial animals, not necessarily guardian animals. The guardian qualities of a donkey are a result of its territorial nature. I have Kangal and Anatolian Shepherd dogs that are farm, personal and livestock protection. There are also Maremmas, Akbash, Great Pyrenees, Central Asian Shepherds and other breeds that evolved guarding livestock. Can't emphasize the "well-bred and well-trained" part enough.
