Brown Quail Sized egg From a Barred Rock Hen

Ok Yesterday I went to Gather Eggs and i looked in the nest box I had 15 eggs so i picked them up and put them in my Egg Basket, As i started to walk away i Noticed A Very Small Brown Egg THe Size of a Quail Egg..... Is my Hen a freak?? What Causes The Different Egg Sizes. My Parents Thought i was playing a joke on them until we Cracked it. There was a lil bitty Yolk.

That happens sometimes... It will also go the other way, too. Some people have said that their hens laid a gigantic egg!

Was this "tiny" egg from a young hen? Could be it was her first? Mine layed small...pullet eggs at first....did you eat it? They are just as good, just takes more!! I collect my Frizzle hens eggs...and save them for my grandson. He just LOVES the " kid sized eggs"
