Mine are free fed (laymash pellets and some meat bird food for protein). I'll throw them a small handful of scratch every few days and I also let them free range for a couple hours every day.
Mine get free fed as well....layer pellets. I give them corn as well....once a day...and they free roam about 2 hours in the early afternoon, then again in the early evening. They get scratch when they come back to the pen, when I call them in.
I dont give treats too much...they get thier treats when free roaming.
I was just wondering, I have mine on free feed too. I use to ration feed them everyday, over the winter i just kept them on full feed. I seem to go threw alot less feed now. I throw them some scratch evey morning to keep them occupied.
Keep the layer feed available 24/7, especially if they do not free roam. Keep the layer feed avialable 24/7 if they free range too. They will get a lot of the nutrients they need from forage, but the feed will balance out their diet. Chickens will not overeat, unless they are broilers.
