Hi
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Just over a year ago, March 2024. Purchased 25 Golden Comets baby chick hens.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
39. Hatched Plymouth Rock eggs back in January.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Just Plymouth Rock and Golden Comets, plus one mix-breed rooster that we got in the summer of last year.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Yummy eggs
. But besides that...
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My day job is in software development. About a year and a half ago, I started to combine my chicken hobby with software. I built an app that I use for daily egg count as well as health and performance management of my flock. I recently also 3D printed RFID tags for my chickens, which can be used for counting and identifying them from a distance.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My wife breeds dogs, Hungarian Vizslas. We also have an Anatolian Shepherd, which we use as a chicken coop guardian. Lastly, one cat that is about to have kittens.
We have two little kids which so far share our interests in chickens, livestock and country life.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Ran across it on Google (I think some chicken health related things). I've known about BYC for a few months. Decided to join because I think I'm doing plenty of interesting things with my chickens, which I'd love to share.
