I just got my ducks eggs in the mail and haven't opened the box yet.

My question is I have to wait two days before I can get them to my incubator which is 4 hours away.

1. Should I open the box up and set them big end up and repack them for the trip home on thursday evening or leave them like they are now?

2. When I get them home do I let them sit big end up again for 24 hours? or can I just place them in the incubator and start the hatching?

How long can you hold duck eggs before they turn bad?

I would think the quicker I get them in the incubator the better the hatch rate would be.

What would be a good temp to store them at till I get home?

Thanks

I think I would open the box right away and put them in a egg carton with the bigs ends up. Be sure your carton is very clean. If it is Styrofoam you might want to wipe it down with alcohol and let it dry. THen wash it out with water to get any residue from the alcohol off then let it dry...not sure if that last step is necessary, but it is what I would do--just being super careful. Then package the eggs (in their carton) in a box with packing around it so it doesn't get jostled, for the road trip you must take. HTH:)
