introductions and question

For five chickens, a 5-gallon bucket of food and a similar sized waterer would be pleanty for them.

We've got ~2.5 dozen chickens (mostly banties) in two coops. When we go out of town for a week, each coop gets that much (plus lots of "treats" - ie over-ripe fruit, stale bread etc). We get a local kid to check a couple times, but they've never run out.

As with others, the eggs are a bigger concern with us.

ps: A cheap feeder is a 5-gallon bucket with ~6 big holes drilled in the side, right at the bottom.

Wow, I had not expected to find so many helpful hints and information here. I will be spending plenty of time browsing through this forum for my planning. And I will make sure to come back once I have my chickens and can contribute some experiences of my own. It can still take at least a few months, though. Good success to everyone with their poultry!

Hi, bit random but I can speak some German (I have done two and a half years of it at school) and I'll be going on an exchange trip to Marburg at the end of March
