Is this an abscess?

A month or 2 ago, my rooster cut his foot just above his rear toe (this toe has always been a little “limp” since he was a chick). It was a deep incision but by the time I noticed it, it had already started to heal over.

Now there appears to be something protruding from it. It is hard to the touch, scab-like, but firmer. It’s black and seems to be slowly growing larger. It doesn’t seem to be sensitive to the touch, but does bother him if I apply pressure to it. He doesn’t limp or otherwise seem unwell. Is this an abscess or some type of infection? Will it fall off on its own or do I need to treat it with something?

I don’t know what that is, but it is possibly necrotic tissue. I would try soaking the feet in warm Epsom salts or Dawn and water for about 15 minutes. Take an old toothbrush and try to debride lightly it once it has softened in the water. Apply some disinfectant or antibiotic ointment when dry. Repeat as necessary.
