This is the sad tale of Mona Lisa Saperstein. She is the sweetest old gal, unlikely to produce anything more than good looks. We were given her 6 weeks ago when we bought another pair of “regular” hens. Unfortunately, the young hot chicks are jealous of her fabulous looks.
Today they swarmed her and pecked her head badly. She’s been doctored up and I think she’s going to recover but she can’t go back to the coop; it’s just not safe. For tonight she’s a house chicken. The problem is, we’re in the midst of prepping our house to list. I’ve been mulling it over all day and there’s no getting around it; she needs a new home.
She will likely need to be with other “hairdo chickens” or be a solo gal (house chicken?). She’s gentle and sweet and makes the cutest sounds. I have pictures of her injury and details of treatment for anyone considering being her chicken mama. Waterloo Region
