Hi everyone,

I have a Netherland Dwarf rabbit, just over 3 years old, and today just a little while ago, my sister ran inside to tell me that 'Patches' was acting weird. So I went outside to see what she meant by 'weird'. 'Patches' was walking in circles and carrying himself funny, and when I opened the cage to get a better look, he tried to get back into his little house, but when he did he was tilting his head to the right. I'm still newish to bunnies, and I've never had problems yet, so I'm really worried. If you have any input whatsoever, please tell me.

Thanks,

Snowygirl

You might look up symptoms of wry neck in rabbits and see if any of that fits. Also check his ears carefully to see if there are mites or anything else in there.

I looked wry neck up, and it sounds like that's what he has. What can I do? I really don't want him to get any long term damage from this.

I am not sure as this is not something I've ever had to deal with in the few rabbits we've had but I believe I've read that it's treated with Ivermectin so I would research that. Or speak with a vet if you have one near you that treats rabbits. Good luck with him!

Thank you so much for your advice!

This link pretty much covers anything you might want to know about wry neck. I haven't read the whole thing in a while, but I will mention that a lot of people will give their rabbits a dose of ivermectin once per month or at least a couple of times per year to try to keep this parasite under control.
