I have two chicks that hatched with splayed legs. I put both in hobbles as soon as they dried off and the hobbles have been effective for the most part.
The first chick, however, was also born with the left foot rotated just slightly outward. I’m thinking this may not be correctable, but if anyone has thoughts about it, I’d love to hear.
The second chick has both feet slightly pointed outward, but they are even and for the most part align correctly when standing.
Both chicks are mobile and have no problem getting around with hobbles, but are slightly flappy and wobbly with hobbles off, however, they can still book it around the carpeted floor.
Is it time for hobbles to be off completely? Or do I keep them on for a couple more days until the slight wobble dissipates? Also, anyone have thoughts on the first chick’s rotated foot? I checked both for slipped tendons and rotated femurs, but didn’t feel any issues and everything is where it should be, other than the slight rotation and accompanying lean to the right on the first chick.
