We don't even have a frost line. When contractors bury pipes here they're supposed to bury them at least 12" below the soil surface. Ha. Most don't bother. We're lucky if they're 8" below the surface. Some aren't even that deep.
As a result, water lines are right below the soil surface and get heated by the sun, so during the hot months, the water comes into your house already hot and there is no cool water from any of the taps or spigots. This is more of a problem than you'd think.
Some people even install whole house water coolers to cool the incoming hot water so they can have cool water during the hot months. I've only seen those in luxury homes, though. The rest of us just suffer.
A friend of mine moved here in June (do not move to the desert in June!!) and I helped unpack the moving truck. It was very hot and she stopped to get a drink of water out of the kitchen faucet. She let it run and run and asked me, "Why isn't there any cool water?"Welcome to the desert!
(Also: don't drink the tap water here, it's super hard and awful.)
It was around 35°F when I woke up, 6ish in the morning. Now going on 10am it's 28° with a feels like temp of 18°, and dropping. Wet, heavy snow last night, total of around 2 inches. More snow falling now... And we have guys working on replacing our windows despite the weather. I think this is day 4.
I bet the air smells sooooo good! I miss ocean air, especially after a rain.View attachment 4264165
