You’re new to the thread, but there are numerous comments like yours throughout this thread. I’ve shared multiple research studies where spent coffee was used in chicken feed research studies and no negative nor positive outcome was noted from consuming coffee grounds, as in it does not help nor...

She was a rescued ex battery hen. Seeing her blossom into a happy backyard chicken was a wonderful experience. Thank you for your input. Her sister was not euthanized but it took her two days to pass and was difficult to watch. I had finally asked for someone to help me and she passed before...
I have a leghorn that I’m fairly certain has water belly. She runs with a waddle, her abdomen is distended and a deep red. Her comb is turning dark. Her sister died from it last. For her sister I had been draining in with a syringe. Today I tried to drain this hen and she jumped after I poked...
I asked a nurse friend to help. I thought she would have approached the removal differently. I stopped the video and used alligator forceps to finish the job and have some surgical tweezers and hemostats to have if needed in the future.
Unfortunately I didn’t immediately realize what was going...
Poor baby. You most definitely made the right choice. It is remarkable how much her feathers hid her poor health. Your story really is tugging at my heartstrings though. I have a pullet that is around 10 months old. She is the offspring an heritage leghorn, the mother lays very tiny pointy white...
It helps to have 6-10 hens at least for every rooster, but sometimes they are still over zealous or pick a favorite hen. I have purchased inexpensive "hen aprons" or "chicken saddles" from etsy which have endured the test of time, and roosters. I've had hens wear one for most of the summer...
I put up 2' tall poultry netting and it keeps them out... except that one time when a hen decided to lay a clutch of eggs in the depths of my rosemary bush.
I came here to suggest permethrin but you just blew my mind with using the sock. I waste SO MUCH DUST with the "dispenser" that the permethrin poultry dust comes in.
I was wondering if it was a darker shell. With the NR 360 candler you probably won't be seeing the veining very easily. Leave the egg. Just smell around the vent hole every day. You'll smell it if it's bad... its really not often that an egg just rots. I've not hatched nearly as many as some...
By this point there should be more obvious veining. Personally though, I never toss an egg unless it smells. I don't want to risk misidentifying an egg as being a dud! Sometimes an egg with a particularly thick shell or a dark shell can be more difficult to candle. I can rarely ever seen...
It's too difficult to tell with the pictures you provided. Candling should also be done from the air cell end. I wouldn't call it a quitter yet. I also suggest getting a better candler. The one on the NR360 isn't that great.
