Thank you so much for your response and the link to the other thread! Seems I only have 1 older Hen after all so she will be alone with the littles so thinking that will help as well
Ok so I have 6 - three week old chicks, 2 or 3 are hens, which i am keeping, the remaining Roosters are going to a friend who has a farm, I just hatched out 14 new babies today. I want to wait about a week and then move the new chicks - hens and 1 Roo in with the older hens so that I don't have...
New rooster mom here. We have been hatching out eggs this year to increase our flock, we will be keeping one rooster with the girls but the others we will grow out and cull for meat. My question is this, if we build a grow out pen for the roosters and have various age roosters together...
I do have a TSC near me. Guess we know where I'm headed after work today. Have you used more than once and have you had any humidity issues with that model?
I have searched through the threads here and narrowed down what is locally available to me to grab today. I started my eggs 4 days ago in a Kebonnixs 12 egg incubator. Before the eggs were in the humidity was great, now I can barely keep it above 45%. Was going to get a better model, have it...
Thanks so much, I can make her a pen where she is now that'll keep the others out. Luckily cold spell is breaking this week so will be easier to get to her area and clean once ice is gone too. I found a local source for hatching eggs, grabbed an incubator and going to put 3 or so with her to...
I have a Broody Golden Comet. At first I thought she was just cold or ill, but nope she is Broody. We got the eggs from under her and today I went out and she's sitting on more today. When I tried to get them she went mad! Mind you we have NOOO Rooster so it's not like they can hatch...
A couple days ago when I was out of town my daughter found a snake in the coop. She removed said snake and all was fine the first night, then last night the girls all boycotted the coop, refused to go in at bedtime and choose to sleep in the run. We are fairly secure, not many night predators...
I have to chuckle as I think sometimes my chickens aren't that smart when I see them out in cold, wind and rain.... hahaha There is definitely good ventilation. I may just worry too much
Added location, SW MO, 6 birds, over 1 sf of ventilation, lightly insulated roof, probably about 24sf of space, its 4x6 with 2 roosting bars, than the nesting area is a off to the side, I would get photos except I'm currently working.. So can't get them till later.. Its a fully sealed coop...
I figured a couple hours outside would be good, I am going to cover their run with straw today so they have something under their feet other than the frozen 11 degree ground currently
It has vents across the top at the roof level, those are not blocked and a good size, its protected from wind on most side due to there outbuildings. I'm gonna try and make/add a water heater after work today and increase their layer of bedding/straw in the bottom. I only lost 1 degree last...
I didn't move my girls outside until it was warmer. I ended up keeping them in my kitchen in a brooder till about 8 weeks but nowhere near as cold as it is now. My girls adjusted throughout the summer and seem to be doing fine in the coop with this freezing weather. As long as they have...
