We had the bucket crack in the bottom, so that was replaced and the whole unit is still functional!
Also build a second one out of a coffee container and orange juice bottle for our quail this year (had to downsize due to predators). Ill try to get a picture of it...
I think for that effort I'll just make the cardboard boxes early. Definitely a good idea, but as the rolls are already "seasoned", I'd rather start with something a little cleaner.
Oh man. Looks like we're finishing our first quail incubation. Got two that have not pipped yet so they are still hanging out, but we hit the 24 hour marker so the other had to move. 13 chicks in the brooder. Two pipped eggs that decided not to continue. And from lockdown: five early quitters...

If your strapped for cash for a couple days, can you just set up the brooder in the bathroom and keep the door closed so the cat can't get in?
Obviously not a great long-term suggestion, but we all understand being budget mindful, especially these days.

Well I got these from a local (~hour away) guy from the internet, so he definitely could have given me a few old ones, but I agree, it's more likely that something cause a few to quit right off the bat.
