Thinking about new food from feed mill

I found a feed mill that has GMO free feed. I have tried ground feed in the past and the chickens appeared to waste a lot of it. How do other people feed ground food like this so there is less waste?

Broody hatching eggs on sand floor

I have sand in my silkie pen and was wondering if it is ok to let a broody hatch eggs in there. I will build a nest box but it will be on the same level as the floor. In otherwords, it won't be raised like most nest boxes and will have a sand floor as well. Will the sand hurt the babies?

    Composting Worms - Shipping included!

European Nightcrawlers for composting or fishing. They do well in the warmer temps of summer as well as in the cooler temps during winter. Nothing else eats your trash & veggie scraps and turns them into a very useful garden fertillizer. Worm castings are all natural and very high in the...

    Coronation Sussex Roo

I lost my only Coronation hen the other night due to injury so I am getting rid of my roo. He was 1 year old in november. He is very protective of his girls and is always the first one out / last one in the coop. I would prefer local pickup.

    Infection in wing

I have a Coronation Sussex hen that has a very ugly infection in one wing. It looks like a golf ball under her skin when looking at her. Upon inspection, there is a very large black mass under her skin and she bleeds from it. I assume the black color is from dried blood and infection. I have...

    Those who sell meat birds

To those of you who sell meat birds, do you have a "waiver" that you have people sign when they buy? I think I read somewhere on here that some people have a waiver to sign. I presume it just states that they will not sue if they get sick from undercooked meat, etc. If someone has one, could you...

Mites - What kind of bedding?

I have a mite problem inside my barn. I noticed them on my white silkies and have been treating all the chickens in the barn since then. I switched from straw bedding to pine shavings hoping that would help. I have noticed an improvement, but no resolution. I tried using poultry dust from TSC...

I have been looking for a food grade barrel to make a rain barrel waterer for my chickens. I found some that had soap in them. Would they be safe to use after washing very well with bleach water?

    Large fowl birds-feeding question

I have raised standard sized birds and silkies for a couple years now. I recently got some LF coronation Sussex and was curious if I needed to feed them grower feed or keep feeding them normal layer feed. They are about 4 months old now.

    Light Sussex gender

Here are my Light Sussex little ones. I would like some help guessing the gender at this age. As with other breeds, I know there is only one true way to know. Egg or crow. I noticed today that one of the chicks has more black on its tail feathers than the other two. Is this a sign that it may be...

    Something is wrong...but what?

I have a 6 week old silkie that doesn't hold her head up. She tucks it under her body and shakes her head like she is preening herself. She will tuck it under her chest and walk backwards until she hits a wall in her brooder and then tucks her head so far under her that she will sometimes flip...
