Hi,
I already have 3 roosters in a small and delicate flock. I have 3 chicks growing up that I suspect at this point are roosters from my recent batch of chicks that I have to re-home. Another rooster would mess up the delicate balance I have going in my flock - let alone 3.
They are silkie...
I have a Rooster that is Columbian as his base with a lot of black mottling and the occasional white tipped feather. He’s 1/4 OEGB and half Sablepoot and most likely is a low expression Mille Fleur (waiting for his first molt to see if more white tips come out).
I have another rooster split to...
I have both blue and lavender genetics in my flock. As well as mottling/mille fleur (porcelain).
I know it’s hard at this stage and I went through it once before with my now blue hen. I just want people’s best guesses 🙂
I’m too impatient to wait for them to grow out to guess hahaha
ABOUT THE CHICKS:
I have 10 chicks and 10 more on the way under my broody. Some are white (these might be the only full-silkies, as my silkie roo is white and they came from my full silkie hen's eggs).
The rest, I assume, are random silkie mixes. Some appear to be splash or something similar...
Hi,
I bought what were supposed to be silkie/cochin mix eggs off ebay. The people I got them from have lots of other types of chickens, though, too.
What hatched out was a tiny chick that grew into a very tiny, feisty, genius bird. She's smaller than my silkies, the smartest bird I have. The...
My buff (pastel/dilute, I was told) celadon (she has blue eggs) coturnix quail hen has gone broody, and I don't think it's genetics.
Let me give my theory of how this happened:
1. There were only 3 quails in the hutch (1 male and 2 females), and I had two quails pair bond.
How do I know they...
I’ve grown out 5 chicks - 2 that I hatched and 3 that I got at 1 day old. They’re my first chickens and I’m very attached, and they’ve grown up together. They’re my pets, and they even lived in my room for most of their life to date.
Now that they’re older I’m starting to be able to tell which...
I am thinking pullet but want other opinions.
Early on I thought she was blue laced red (with pencilling?).... now I have no clue.
Is she blue laced red?
Blue and red partridge?
Mottled? Some combination of all of the above?
Also, is she even a she?
I was told she was a cochin/sablepoot mix...
Hi Everyone,
I'm extremely interested in using river sand for my coops. Wanted to hear some pros and cons, and, I know from other threads that most people go to their local quarry and get some. Is there anyone who gets it online? I'd like to make an online purchase, and I'd love to know if this...
I got this chick from a mixed color pen where there are 8 hens and 6 roos. Both BBS (andalusian) and Lavender lines are in the pen. This chick that I got was darker (a lot) than the obvious splashes and than the one lavender that was for sure a lavender that was in the mix, but was lighter (a...
I brought home three baby chicks last week, and introduced them in with my little singleton chick from a lone hatch. They were from two different local farms, all under a week old except one that is two weeks.
The two I'm concerned about are one that was one day old and is now 6 days, and the...
This is a little Cochin chick I got today. The dad is lavender and looks to have the isabella partridge markings. Mom looks to be a silver laced cochin (maybe silver partridge? I have a hard time telling since some partridges I've seen have lacing and others don't) - just googled it actually and...
I have 3 shipped silkie eggs and one shipped turkey egg. I let them rest for 36 hours, and they've been in the incubator since Wednesday... I didn't start turning them until Saturday and I have been turning them very gently in the upright position at a slight angle clockwise then counter...
I blended my baby quails a feed with the following ingredients into small/fine bits:
1. Manna Pro Organic Starter Crumble Complete Feed - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I41XZP4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This wasn't enough protein, so I created my own formula and...
I recently fell into the poultry hobby because I decided to incubate supermarket quail eggs. It was interesting. Of 15 eggs, 4 hatched. Two of the hatchlings died in sad circumstances, but I have two beauties that are growing nicely in the brooder. One was splay-legged and curl toed, and I was...
