Baby-- I hope you are able to get everything passed!! People have an overall LOUD image of all poultry due to roosters, IMO. Having a few hens or ducks shouldn't be an issue noise wise!
Tried to put a roof on my parents house today. Naturally it rained, so over half the house is currently...
Morning! Sorry I didn't take the time to catch up on all 70+ posts I missed yet but I will try to later today....
So for the moment I have a couple of questions:
1- What exactly do I need to do to quarantine new birds before adding them to the flock? How long do you keep them seperated...
Well the 75 birds (I forgot to mention) were Cornish Rocks and butchered at 8 weeks of age. Only a few hens were allowed to escape and they stayed to lay eggs until the next batch was purchased in spring, so while it may not have been the best of situations for them for that 8 week period, it...
Good luck bigz!! DH had a tag last year too and never even saw a bear to shoot at.... Majorly frustrating! I supposedly should have enough points to draw for unit C where we live next year, but am as of yet unconvinced that I even want to go hunt one. 11 days to the bowseason opener!! Let...
No I have been pushing to get an outside yard built for them, but DH is dragging his feet. We bought his grandparents farm last year and his gma always had chickens, with no outside yard so he's seeing at something that will be a pain in the butt to build, then cut grass around, when in his...
Hi all,
I never thought much of it until I was looking at someone else's post in this area earlier today, but I have 9 chickens that all look a little funny the last couple of days. I guess because 9 of the 10 looked the same I wasn't really noticing it...
They all have a lump if you will...
Morning all!! I don't have anyone leaving my house for school yet as my only child is 8months old, but I feel for all you mama's who had to put little ones on the bus this morning!! Hopefully they will have a great first day though so it's not a fight for the rest of the year. . .
So here's...
DrHaHa- Be careful what you wish for with the extra building thing!!! We bought our house last August and now have a 40x40, a 40x60, and a 100x40. Amazing the amount of crap that other people suddenly have and are wonderin if you have room for!! Not a big deal overall, but I have an uncle who...
Morning all. This is the first time I realizd that we have a state website!! Very nice!!!
So I am in NE Wisconsin also, for those who are wondering. Currently have 7 of my 10 ladies laying up a storm and keeping me in eggs up to my ears.
Someone was asking about mealworms..........I know...
Mine started doing the squat a few weeks ago and I thought the dang thing had completely lost its little birdie brain!! Looking on here tonight its all starting to make more sense since I now have 3 doing this consistently and 7 that are laying eggs. I know that one of my BO's isn't but not...
LOL at the invisible egg!
I think my brain has been taken over by my chickens!! I look at the above pics and go "hmmmm, that looks like a goldstar egg, I'd bet that one's from a buff orp, etc" AGGGHHH!!! LOL
First, sorry because this isn't going to be strictly related to the original post...............
So, the hens squatting down can be a sign that they are laying???? I have 3 that recently started doing this and refuse to move their feathery little butts for me to get into the coop in the...
As of today, 7 of our 10 are laying! All 3 of the EE's, 2 of the Buff Orps, 1 of the goldstars, and still undetermined if the other (and first) egg is coming from a white rock or the other goldstar.....(the 3 EE's are all laying bluish/green eggs, I watched the goldstar lay hers so I know for...
Thats a great idea to use the plastic mats! I had 2 cracked eggs when I picked them up today and wasnt sure what to do about it. We use the wood shavings also and have the same problem with the chickens pecking and scratching the shavings out. Have to get some mats this weekend!
I found our first egg when our girls were 17 weeks old. That was the end of July; since then 4 more of the gals have joined her in her "fill the fridge" quest! 5 down, 5 to go.....
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking that the first egg was from one of my 2 white rocks. They are both bigger...
Jersey, what should l be feeding my 5 week old chicks then? Right now they have water and crumbles. Do they need grit? Would broccoli distract them a little and keep them busy?? I have broccoli in the fridge, but don't want to give them that without the grit if they need both!
Help!
Ash-- Someone told me that this is what they refer to as "chicken math". In our situation they used the term because I claimed I was going to buy 6, ordered 8, and came home with 10. Lol, what can I say......... My family is already placing orders for eggs when they start laying and if they...
