Hello! My name is Sara and I am just beginning my venture into the chicken world. I have always had a love and passion for animals. I worked as a vet tech for a few years and volunteered for a month at a wildlife sanctuary in Thailand where I had a great experience. I currently work as a...
Hi there! Just though I would post some pics of my new babies I hatched out April 23rd from Lynne. I had a third chipmonk striped baby hatch but was very weak and died overnight First pic is at a few days old and the other two are today.
I am thinking that the one with white is a roo...
usschicago1, I am in the western part of the state by Vermont. You are about 2 1/2 hours from me
I am excited that my girls are looking good! So should I have the rooster back for a visit in the spring or should I try and get a different man? Some of the roos on here are so stunning! What...
Hi all! I havent been on the boards in a while so I just noticed this thread! I have a few of these beauties myself and would love to know what you think of them. I might be interested in trying my hand in the breeding thing with a little guidance if my birds are good enough These girls were...
My Light Brahmas that had the v shaped air cells hatched last wednesday. I got three out of seven but after candling again two stopped developing maybe mid way and the other two looked filled with chick so. Out of the three that hatched one was very miss proportioned. It's neck looked longer...
I also have eggs in the incubator now that have moving air cells and some look like they are v shaped.
I was going to post about it but then found this thread and feel much better! I looks like all of mine are developing with a few that are too dark to really tell.. gotta get me one of those...
Kernel the white one is I believe a pure cochin bantam. He is getting a bigger comb and it is pink at this point, more so than the photo shows. He also is almost fully feathered now. Is he a he?
His clutch mate is part cochin bantam I think. Any guesses as to what else? She has only her wing...
I guess I'm a little confused.. Were the eggs in the carton cups for the whole incubation or did you just put them in there? Have you been turning them? Are you measuring humidity?
Dont worry about the candling too much, I dont think it will have a major effect on your hatch since I did the...
I cant wait! I will be attending this weekend and it will be my first chicken swap! I may bring two three week olds, they were my fist hatch ever, some test eggs. I am sort of sentamental about them for that reason but as I am only going to be able to have about 8 birds and I really want some...
Well, both your roos are beautiful so I cant imagine I wont be happy with any of the chicks, though I do really hope that I get a frizzle... anyway, my zip code is 01301. How do you want me to pay? Paypal? When will the eggs ship? Thanks!
Sara
Thanks firedove and aberfitch. An infection would make some sense.. good call. I was chalking it up to nature also. It just really stinks to put all that time and love into these eggs (not to mention money!!) and then half dont hatch and even if they do some might die! I enjoyed the experience...
I harched out three babies this past weekend, two bantys and one wyandotte mix I believe. The wyandotte was the last to hatch of the three that did and the umbilicle cord was still attached! I freaked out a little but the chick seemed fine and the cord dried up but hadnt fallen off yet. She was...
Well, finally tally is:
Set 8 eggs, one infertile, one quitter before day 18, but only three hatched out of the six remaining. One chick died yesterday, I am not sure why exactly but that is for a different post...
I am not sure if I count the infertile egg into my percentage?
Sara
Ok, she is peeping but not loudly and moving around then resting like a normal chick I guess but these are the first chickens I have ever had.. Thanks for all the quick replies! I guess I will just keep a close eye on her and see what happens!
Being a chicken mom is so stressful! I managed to...
I work third shift and came home to find the third egg that had pipped had hatched but she has parts coming out of her navel!! It looks like the white part that was left in the other two eggs when they hatched and some bloody veining. I am not sure what or even how to describe it but things dont...
