Did anyone else receive a chick order from McMurray this week? Its their first hatch of the year and ours arrived yesterday. Of 28 chicks, two arrived dead, one died shortly after they arrived, and I have 4-5 very weak right now which I have pulled out into a separate brooder to watch & treat...
1- Pearl Leghorn arrived dead

3- Silver Laced Wyandotte died shortly after arrival
4-Pearl Leghorn is very weak right now

We just got our order of chicks from McMurray yesterday. It is the first time we've ordered from them. Here's the current run down:
1-- They shipped our 30 chicks on a Saturday from Iowa, which means according to the tracking number check in time, they had to spend over 24 hours sitting in a...
Travis, thanks for letting me know that. I will have to give them a call. The two I mentioned died (plus the one that arrived dead) and we have 3 that are very weak so I have them in a separate brooder. Our chicks were shipped out on Saturday from the hatchery, which I thought was weird. I'm not...
The light is down pretty low for them... we've always used 100w bulbs for our chicks with no problems. They are in 55 gallon fish tanks so they have plenty of room to move away or closer to the heat. No one is chirping loud, so they are acting plenty comfortable.
They have been under 100w bulbs since 9am this morning. Because there are so many of them I have them divided between two brooders. One brooder also has 3 ducklings in it. The two chicks came from the same brooder, not the one with the ducklings in it. They are also not the same breed.
I have...
We received an order of 30 chicks this morning from McMurray. One arrived dead. The rest looked fine until a couple hours ago we found one suddenly weak, laying down, not wanting to eat or drink. We removed it and put it under a separate light, but is continuing to get weaker and weaker.
Now...
We received a shipment of 11 ducklings this morning that were shipped from Metzer Farms in CA to NC. I picked them up from the post office before they opened, and immediately checked the ducklings to make sure everyone looked OK while I was there. I was surprised when I opened the box.
They...
I have five chicks (3 Jersey Giants and 2 Ameraucanas) that are almost 10 weeks old. Just today I realized that the 50lb bag of chick starter that is nearly empty (meaning thats how much these five chicks have eaten) is actually 24% chick starter for turkey, quail, pheasant, etc.
Ok, I should...
Did you quarantine them before you introduced them into your flock? If the only ones dying are the new ones (and your original birds seem fine) it may be that they were introduced to something in your environment that they were not used to (such as a bacteria, etc) That doesn't mean that you may...
Anyone have any recommendations of a Lamancha breeder in NC? We are on the coast and looking for something within driving distance (coast to central NC area)
(side note: Im looking in backyardherds also)
Thanks for the response! I have been keeping an eye on them hoping to catch them in the act again, but so far nothing. And they are so weary of people, I'm sure they won't do the deed if I am out in the yard anyway.
The two ducks look identical with the exception of beak color. The possible...
A couple months ago we were given two Runner ducks that are about 1 1/5 yrs old. We were told they were both females. Neither is laying right now. They both look the same (no curled feather on either tail), talk the same (As far as I can tell, they both "quack"), and are the same size. They are...
We are adopting two female runner ducks that are just over a year old. They are currently in a penned flock of chickens. We have a flock of 20 hens and one rooster, and though they are kept in a very large pen until about noon (to keep them laying in their boxes), they free range the rest of the...
We have the Brinsea Octagon Advance (http://www.brinsea.com/products/octagon20A.html) and LOVE it. All of our hatches in it have been flawless. Super easy to use, super easy to clean (big plus). There is a lot on these forums about Brinsea incubators. I'm so glad we went with this one. If you...
Looking for Light Brahma and/or Jersey Giant hatching eggs. We are in New Bern NC and would prefer if they are within driving distance but will pay to ship if needed. Let me know what you have and price you ask for them.
I have two Silkie roos that turned 16 weeks old today (7/31/12). One is a blue and one is a splash. Hand raised as pets. Very docile, healthy and they have been raised together. Make offer! NPIP certified flock. PHOTO SHOWS THEM AT 12 WEEKS. They've matured a lot since then! Partridge in photo...
