I’ve been away for about 4 wks and my dad picked up their feed this time and actually got them 4-grain scratch and not feed. 😖😖😖 They are free roaming all day so they do have access to grass and bugs and they get fruits and veggies daily too. However before I left 4 of the hens were laying and...
So I’m seeing lots of mice/rat poop.
I started searching for a solution and saw an add for the bucket trap and wondering if anybody has used it. The rodents don’t die in this trap so what is the process for a bucket of mice after??
My coop is actually too small and a hen with two chicks is in there and they already showed aggression towards the chick. The rest of the flock prefers to sleep out on the mango tree and that’ why I let the stray chick into the run. But now I’m concerned about mice. I went to check on the...
Lots of chickens in my neighborhood however we are not supposed to have them so everyone is very hush hush about it. We hear them and see them but nobody claims them or talks about it. Lol. One of my hens disappeared a while back and then we saw her with a rooster down the block. We still...
This chick showed up in my yard today. I’m not sure what to do. I got her in the run so she would be safe from my flock that was chasing her around. I left enough space in the entrance where she could get out if she wanted and at some point after eating and drinking she got out and then...
I don’t know how to candle but will look into it.
She is a good mom. The rest of the adult flock except for 1 were hatched by her. And she is the absolute best. She is extremely defensive of her babies amd she keeps a tight rope on the babies so I’m sure she will protect them from anyone...
Oh that’s a good idea about the marking. We had left her 2 eggs to hatch and now she has 7 and now I have a feeling the others might have laid some eggs in there. 😅 I thought once they stayed in there all day then they were done laying.
I have a rooster. We have 5 hens. One is currently sitting on 7 eggs and 1 has 2 chicks already. We don’t want any more babies. Lol.
actually we have 3 roosters but we’ve separated the others and figuring out what to do with them. I don’t think our yard or flock is big enough for more than...
So my hen just started laying. I don’t want babies, I want to eat the eggs. So do I just take the egg when she lays it or do I leave her one so she keeps laying?
So my chicks had the pox. We originally thought the scabs were from the boys fighting but then the two chicks I have also got scabs so figured it was indeed the pox but then none of the girls got it.
Nonetheless, everyone is better now except for this one chick who has something on his cheek...
Thank you! I was wondering about the fowl pox after seeing some info on here last night. I thought the scabs were from the fighting as they were all involved. But it definitely looks a lot like the pictures I saw here.
One is better. Yesterday he was able to figure out drinking and today he got the hang of eating as well. The second one with the eyes shut still hasn’t managed to figure it out and he keeps scratching his wounds making it worse.
Yea we were trying to rehome them because we don’t have the space to have more than one flock. Currently they are all separated. 2 of them can’t see because their eye lids are swollen shut. At this point I just need to figure out if then can even make
yes they are all separated.
Sadly our little flock of chicks ended up being mostly boys. 4 boys, 2 girls and the mom. They have started to fight and 2 got injured badly to the point their eyes are swollen shut. They are able to drink but not eat so I’m very worried they won’t make it. My dad thinks it’s time to cull...
