Glyphosate in Chicken Feed- Should I be concerned or not?

I looked it up on google. Apparently some farmers spray glysophate on wheat to dry it out and thus be able to reap it two weeks earlier. I am only seeing it used on wheat. Farmers in my area do not use it to dry out wheat, which is usually harvested in August, a normally dry month. As...

    Budget Build Chicken Tractor🐓

Where is the ventilation? I like exterior nest box3s, but when you open the lid on yours it will hit the roof of the coop. You could change it so the door is the side panel. It would also be easier to clean out if you did that. It looks well made. I love the fact that it is mobile. You can...

Best vacuum to suck up feathers from hardware cloth?

aart mentioned larger feathers. You could easily pick those yourself before vacuuming. I would get a shop vac that is easy for you to pick up and carry. They should have a handle on them. If someone else is going to do the vacuuming then it should be light enough for that person to carry.

    Suggestions for newborn chick treats??

The problem with your plate is that they will walk through the food, and poop in it. Better option would be ramekins or small dessert bowls. They don't need to eat anything the first couple of days, do just put water out in the ramekins. Put them out so each ramekin is in one corner of a...

Campylobacter - treat or accept it as part of farm?

You can use an antibacterial on your flock. Ask your vet. If there is a bird specialist in your area that would be a good place to start. Or even a university that has a veterinarian school or agricultural school. Try Michigan State University.

how long after dark does a raccoon come out?

They are for sure out between 11:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. How soon they leave the den can depend on how far away they have to go to get food; if the summer has very long days and the winter very long nights, or if it is more even. I once opened my back door to check on my chickens and a small...

Plans for a new backyard coop/run build

I am still concerned about a raccoon or opossum climbing up that tree and dropping into your run.

Chicken run as a Woods coop?

All of that flapping in the wind is reducing the life of your tarp. Get some short bungee cords or toggle balls. Tie rope to each. On one side of the roof attach a cord or toggle to the structure. Throw rope over the top (over the ridge) and secure on the other side. You will need four, maybe...

How level does the ground need to be?

There is a gap under the door. You can put a piece of hardware cloth there, on the door. Or, you can put a piece of lumber to form a step over. As long as the coop is level, you should be okay. You can put a little leg on each low corner, but you'll need to fill the gaps. Having a slight...

    Do I need to cull?

It shouldn't still be in the incubator. Get it in with the other chicks. If they are obnoxious, set up a corner for the new chick so that can see each other. You can just use a piece of chicken wire or hardware cloth.

    Our new coop!

That looks mighty putty. You might need more ventilation. Also, they might pick at the OSB board. If you are planning that 6 will roost on the middle rung and 6 will roost on the lower rung, be prepared to have 12 roosting on the upper rung. If they do that you could just move the food and...

Does my hoop coop need a frame?

If it was lower it would withstand wind better. You want a panel side on the wind side. The wind will just roll right up and over if it is not a straight side. You would loose height, but gain width. There needs to be a frame at the base. Then, you build a frame for the door, or possibly two...

I need some chicken coop advice

How dry is the area? I have heavy clay and in the spring new ponds appear. If you have a septic field, that will be the highest place and probably a good place to put the coop, it is where we put ours. If your spring is wet and muddy, you need a place for melting snow and ice to go. Think...
