I def need to look into those boredom blocks for the girls to share for a few hours when they get noisy/pacey. We just added another 7x3 extension to the other side of the coop so they have more space and fresh grass for the next few days before they destroy it😂
I have 2 black australorps in the exact same coop we just built an extended run around it so they had more room. It’s hard to see in this pic but they basically have a little shed with an extended area on the right as well. They seem to STILL want more room as we are currently in the process of...
Ugh I wish! Unfortunately, there is no safe, legal way for my girls to free range😭they have proved that they can clear a well over 6ft fence as well as it being only partially legal (with a permit that we don’t have) to keep hens in our town. With the neighbors so close, it’s just a hungry dog...
We tried to collect some old branches and a tree stump but couldn’t cut into the dead tree to get a stump :\ the tree branches have no where to go besides lay flat on the ground
Also the off chute on the left is another area for them to run in, it has a little doggy door connected to them main area. I’ll attach more pics of the inside of the coop so you get a better idea of spacing
Hey yall, I have 2 hens in about 80 sq feet of floor space in a contained run. As much as I’d love to let them free range, we have neighbors directly around us and not a solid fence. The girls have about 80 sq feet and I give them buckets of dirt, salads, and grass clippings daily. I was...
I don’t have much room once you go in, any recommendations on where I can find things they can climb on? I have a thick tree branch in the extended area but it just lays on the floor
So we’ve added a 7x3 extended area to our original coop/run area (the long covered structure on the left) that they have access to at all times as well as a fresh salad, buckets of dirt/grass from our yard, and treats. I still feel like they need more space bc as I’ve learned, the only real...
I have 2 black australorps and only one of them is my squawker. It’s beyond annoying! The one will lay eggs in complete silence and the other one will only squawk when her sister is laying! It’s the weirdest thing. She won’t make noise when she lays but she will scream at the top of her lungs...
Yes so do mine. Although they are choosing to stay in today and yesterday lol. I threw some fresh salad and treats onto straw on ground outside and they jumped down to gobble it up and went right back inside coop lol
thanks for the reply! since putting the straw out in the run, i coaxed them with some treats so they understood the ground was no longer snow but after eating they went right back up (we have had colder days than today and they stayed out all day no problem, the issue is last night we got our...
Hi I hope you’re still on here but we have a couple days coming up where it will be lows of -10 to -14 and I’m just wondering if my 2 black australorps will be okay. We have tarps and plenty of straw inside and out of coop but I’m wondering should I lock them inside the coop all day on those...
Hey yall, my 2 black australorp hens were acquired in June 2023 at 6 weeks and started laying in September. They laid beautifully for the first couple of months about an egg a day from each (even though the eggs are quite small) but they just recently (10ish) days ago stopped laying completely...
I know it’s hard to see, but we have added the additional “run” space on the right which is 7.25x3’ so that will give them about 20 sq feet more to explore. As well as fresh grass before they tear it up 😂. I’m going to add branches like the one in the bottom right to the space as well to add...
