We use corn cob bedding in ours. We have been known to put hay in there for them to pick thru but we stopped using any pine saving years ago. It was easier to deal with the corn cob bedding plus the chickens of all ages like it best.
I suggest going to the vet getting comfortis. It works great and fleas start falling off dead within 30 minutes. I have used it and I was amazed after weeks of fighting fleas...I finally got sleep and rid of those pesky critters. Good Luck!!!!
Wow It seems Madison county is popular. I am in Madison as well. We have had chickens for 5-6 yrs this round. I have been looking at what I will be getting this year but it's hard decission to make. Welcome :-)
@OEBG100 I will have to say for the last several years we have only ordered thru Cackle Hatchery....except when we take the grandson to the feed store. We have always had great service from them. We are in IL so we don't order this soon...it's just too cold. I would say within a week we have...
I personally have never heard of buttermilk pie. I do know I don't like pecan pie. But it actually sounds like it could be used to save money for those who can't afford pecans or those who like pecan pie but can't have the nuts.
Mine love their scratch cracked. We put corn, oats, and millet in it...I sometimes add some black oil sunflower seeds or whatever I have available from what we grow or I find a great deal on. I will also add the balck seed sunflower seeds have better nutritional feed value than other varieties...
I would use WHITE chalk not colored and draw a line around the ants will not cross the white chalk line.
I would also use peppermint essential oil. Place the oil on a cotton ball rubbing it around the entry ways and/or put the cotton ball in the window seal and leave it sit there.

Once there was a little boy who lived in the country. The
family had to use an outhouse, and the little boy hated it
because it was so hot in the summer, freezing cold in the
winter, and smelled bad all the time.
The outhouse was sitting on the bank of a creek and the boy
was determined that...
I am scared to look at the cost of the chickens and things they need. I know one year I had cost way over $1000 but things haven't been that bad...since we got over learning curve and trained pup to leave them alone. I got to thinking of how much this year we have spent...OMG I was shocked at...
I use diatomaceous earth (make sure you use food grade) to help with algea or anything in my waterers. I found out it helped with my sons horse water tank and kept his water clear for alot longer. I was so pleased with it I started putting it in chicken water too as well as my other waterers. It...
Oh sorry I forgot the mice issue...at the local farm store they have inclosed bait traps we use. We do that cause we have dogs and one loves rat bait :( Since we have done that we have no issues with mice or such. If you have problems with bugs in your feed use diatamious earth just make sure it...
I have last count 70 chickens,3 turkeys, 1 duck, 7 mytonic goats, 40 rabbits just across the drive from the house. I would say at most 100 foot. I have no problems with them there. I personally like it yes you have to keep the buildings clean but on average that isn't an issue. If cleaning them...
I feed my extra eggs to my dogs. I make them rice and add the eggs....and feed it to them daily. I started boiling my eggs cause I can boil 3 doz easy and feed them for days with one boiling but not alot of storage issues with boiled eggs. I woudln't feed scrambled eggs to my chickens but the...
I prefer to use corn cob bedding for my bedding. It is more absorbant plus something for them to play with and pick thru...mine love new bedding day. I think I read 1 chicken to 18 inch sq of housing....I am not sure seeing mine are free range. I know I see ppl say they have one chicken but I...
