I have a question. I have the one cockerel I will be breeding all of my hens to this spring. How do I go about him servicing my 5 breeders and still keep track of who laid which egg?
Great! No matter what it wasnt a deal breaker for me. He has so many good qualities that are hard to put together. He also just keeps getting better over time.
I am glad you like him @kfelton0002. He has been my favorite since the beginning. Love his body type, he is massive bodied too. He carries himself with great pride also. @Chooks man what about the white underfluff in his hackles? Is that a DQ trait? Very proud to own him!
Hello all, haven't peeked in in a while. First thing I see is a post from @Chooks man and I was stoked. Glad you are back, love the analysis and knowledge you bring to the thread. @RedBanks glad to see you too! @kfelton0002 my batch is growing out and have exceeded my expectations. I will...
I would not suggest charging him or kicking at them. This is a normal aggressive move by cockerels. This is the reason I put them in a very uncomfortable position when I carry them around. I carry them by their legs upsidedown for a bit or hold them by their wings folded back and this is...
I catch the ornery ones and carry them aound with me for a bit and make them very uncomfortable in my arms. I think it scares the hell out of them and puts them in a very unnatural and threatening position. May have to do this several times and continue for a while it works on mine.
Yea that cockerel kind of puts it all together. He’s a little slower to mature than the others. I’m going to tinker with this crazy comb cockerel. He has so many traits that are hard to get. Size, perfect color and best shaped tail (so far). They’re only 3 months old so a ways to go yet.
