I had 2 broodies (dutch bantam) sitting together. 3 chicks hatched: 1 black silkie and 2 dutch bantams). I separated 1 broody with the chicks and left the other one on the eggs. some eggs were set/laid 2-3 days later. I hope to hatch more silkies.

you can separate both of them from the girls till they calm down. if you have a cage it will do. just no girls around.

that's what the roos do. they might fight each other instead of mating and you might get infertile eggs. watch them.

sorry to hear that. my last years' first hatch was 10 silkies. 2 killed by the wyandotte broody, 7 died from 1 wo to 3 mo, 1 cockerel with pea comb survived. sold him as ornamental bird.

I love white fluffy balls but white silkies would be a magnet for hawks and eagles here.

I always give antibiotics (oxytetracycline or doxycycline) to the injured birds (for 3 days).

this season I plan to keep them in a bigger run. they were in a rather small coop when that accident happened.
