With weather coming in I will make sure they're up to snuff on feed and water.

Gave them another 100 sq feet, gives them 320 sq ft of run. Works out to roughly 35 sq feet per bird for 9 birds and they still squabble. Oh well, birds being birds.

Cleaned out the coop and laied down fresh straw in the boxes and floor. Ungrateful biddies refused to go to roost. Had to snatch and grab and toss 'em in. :rant:mad:

Feels like temp 100 high humidity no air moving.. Dropped Blue Ice block in waterer, box fan in window to draw out heat and give 'em a breeze.

With all the rain, heat and humidity the grass (weeds) are knee deep to a tall dog. Cut the crew loose and it didn't take them long to fall in behind the mower. Bugs, bugs and zoomies. They're a happy busy bunch for the rest of the day, protein, protein and protein. Gotta love it.

Sat and put an examining eye on overall well being. Eyes, combs legs and feathers social interactions. Older birds giving us 2-3 a day and they're getting larger. Younger birds combs coloring. :thumbsup All good.

Went out at day break opened the run gate for free range, let them out of the coop fresh water and said. see you tonight when I drop the chicken door for the night. Pretty much the same routine as any other day.

Today I'm mowing to stir up any bugs then cutting the older birds loose for their first free range as I will be outside all day in this beautiful sunny 70+ degree day to keep an eye on things. The younger birds will get their first outing in the 16x20 run.

After a day and half of coop confinement because we weren't here pulled the chicken door and they bailed out like Paratroopers from an airplane squawking and clucking to be the first one out.

After not having chickens the past 10-11 yrs and turning coop into a shed had to split 10x20 back to 10x10 half coop for the 9 new birds. One 10' wall with entry door, nest boxes and roosting bars. Straw wall, door and wire tomorrow. Could have finished but those darn coffee breaks got in the...

Today is moving day. From easy living in the house to the to the coop. no more coddling. They have feathered out and grown nicely. Still going to give them some heat as our nights can still get down in 20 some degree range. Picking up 4 more Blk Aus day olds Fri that will be inside for 4-6 wks...

Weekly bedding change in the brooder. Taking advantage of a string of nice days for some outside maintenance on existing coop. Some bottom rot on door trim and some caulking and a sanitation with a diluted Clorox spray. Getting some more day olds the end of March so going to have the coop ready...
