I have 2 gallon buckets and 2 quart rubber black bowls. She comes over when I bring the bucket of fermented feed. She gets in-between 2 friends and that helps guide her. Takes a couple tries to get to depth of food. She pecks short. She makes it over to the waterer on her own.

Yes my older hens go in early and the oldest get out later. The hens from last year and the year before are out until 20 minutes after sunset.

Especially if trying not to use pesticides. Used to be 80% of people were involved in food production before industrial revolution. Now it's the other way around . Takes a lot of labor to weed. When I was a kid I helped weed a bean field and it was hard hot and dusty work.
