Wow, gorgeous! Those colors are awesome. I have few recent pigeons in the tan, chocolate, yellow, red mix & a color I call Teddy Bear, but no chickens quite like yours...he is unique. Something so soothing about these colors, makes me want to scoop them up for hugs.

I had a Dolly once...she got renamed to Donny. A funny observation...whenever I hatched a bunch of chicks, people came over & said, oooh, look at that little pretty one. The "pretty one" always ended up being a rooster! 😆

Oh OK, sorry I posted the other one, started it awhile ago then kept getting interrupted with this phone. I know you feel sad but sometimes this is what is best. I had a sweet Guinea with tendon issues, poor thing could not even stand & therefore could only eat when propped up, despite my best...

When I hand fed a young EE chick that had a hard time after pecking it's way out of the shell, the very last chick to hatch, I tried a method often used with wild birds. Dip a child's type watercolor paint brush into a wet mash, and tap the beak gently, or do a motion like the paint brush coated...

When I found a Box turtle with severely injured toes I found a vet to treat the infection, I gave the Little Dude injections & he healed, but then I was most fortunate to find a lady that ran a turtle rescue. Because his injuries were permanent deformities now, he could not be released back into...

I remember when I set slices of watermelon out for a group of youngsters. The pullets walked around and eyed it suspiciously. Then 1 brave soul, the young rooster, took a 1st peck. Then another peck. Soon everyone joined in. When I returned a mere hour later, I figured I'd find the rinds. All I...

Maybe Google search or FB search a special needs chicken group? I cannot cull either. The few times suffering & death were inevitable, I had to take to someone else to cull. It is a sad part of having these sweet creatures share our lives. They can also get cancer tumors, heart or liver disease...

I do not have any cross beak chickens, but I do have a cross beak pigeon. I see her peck at grain & seed, to attempt to eat, but she cannot grasp the food to get it into her mouth. I must hand feed her every day. I give her a combination of handfeed bird formula & pigeon grain variety & grit...

I need some of those dung beetles here! Guess I'd have to wait til summer. Then what...try to catch them all & bring them in, set up in a terrarium over winter? Hmmm, I need to read up on Dung Beetles 🪲 I'm not kidding either...I've had successful mealworm farms & Butterfly terrariums for...

But won't the chickens eat all of the beetles before they get the job done?

Ditto, when we get rain here, the pens turn into a slippery, messy, bumblefoot recipe, nasty mudhole. I've tried many methods, but it seems the nugget bark chips work best. I used to be able to get large pine bark nuggets bagged at Lowe's, but now they only have the smaller size nuggets, but...
