I don't know what the cause of death would be, then. Likely something totally random like a heart attack, as I mentioned.

    From egg to chick!

Sorry for your loss! Did they have enough room in the water to dip their whole face in? Ducks need to wash off their eyes or they can become infected. Or you might have just gotten unlucky and one of the ducks might have had a random heart attack—things like that happen with no warning or reason.

    From egg to chick!

I wish I could join the Serama army! Too expensive, though!

You can post us pictures of them!

    From egg to chick!

I thought I wasn't getting chicks this year. Now I am planning on incubating twelve eggs. What is wrong with me??? Never mind, I already know . . .

That's fine, I have also done things like that before! :D I am collecting Ruby's and Quartz's eggs now.
  7. SwampPrincessChick

    From egg to chick!

I take back what I said, I saw Jasper mating Ruby today but that is the first time I have seen him do that in multiple months.

I also assume, for that reason, that the eggs of the pullets are unfertilized. I would want to hatch them, but I don't think anything would happen. I think it is a great coincidence that Jasper rarely mates and he only has two pullets, because if he was an aggressive breeder then that would be...

    From egg to chick!

Actually, Jasper is kind of strange. He flogs me every time I walk past him, and he does dance a lot at his pullets. But I never see him mounting them. I just assume he doesn't mate much, but he does dance at everyone.

Sorry, I keep losing track of my notifications! Yes, Jasper is a mix of something, I have no idea what, I assume Old English Game Bantam and Dutch Bantam? Actually, I have an idea, he's a mix of hormones and a chicken. :D

    From egg to chick!

I could actually stick some in the Gemstone Flock pen . . . no males though, Jasper would be mad at competition!

    From egg to chick!

They are so cute and pretty! I wish I could have some, but we have ran out of room and Seramas are too expensive. At least where I am, they cost about $20-$60 a chick.

I like high-pitched crows, I think they are funny and cute. I agree, I would suggest to keep your Seramas away from other breeds because they can be easily trampled and beat up with their small size.

AWESOME! SERAMAS ARE SOME OF THE BEST!
  15. SwampPrincessChick

    From egg to chick!

That makes sense! You're welcome! Drakes can be hard to handle so I would recommend starting off with only hens if possible. Which hatchery or breeder are you getting them from?

    From egg to chick!

I wanted to share a random story with all of you. I found it quite hilarious. I know it is going to sound like a lie, but believe me because I saw it and it's real. I have a Rhode Island Red Bantam named Ruby who I absolutely love and I take her out of the pen so she can have time to free-range...

    From egg to chick!

Wow, I haven't been here in a while! I hope you feel better! I used to own ducks. Just for your information, if a drake mates a chicken hen then he will kill her by making her internally bleed out. I don't want to be negative but I always want to warn anyone of that because in my opinion...

    From egg to chick!

Yes, chickens eat sand. They also eat small rocks and other grit that will help them break down their food so it is easier to digest. It is a good thing that Snape was trying to protect his females, that is always a plus when it comes to having a male. I would flog anything that ran towards me...

I stopped getting notifications on this! What did I miss?!

Congratulations! I would say your Rhode Island Red is laying that.
