Sorry for your loss! Did they have enough room in the water to dip their whole face in? Ducks need to wash off their eyes or they can become infected. Or you might have just gotten unlucky and one of the ducks might have had a random heart attack—things like that happen with no warning or reason.
I also assume, for that reason, that the eggs of the pullets are unfertilized. I would want to hatch them, but I don't think anything would happen. I think it is a great coincidence that Jasper rarely mates and he only has two pullets, because if he was an aggressive breeder then that would be...
Actually, Jasper is kind of strange. He flogs me every time I walk past him, and he does dance a lot at his pullets. But I never see him mounting them. I just assume he doesn't mate much, but he does dance at everyone.
Sorry, I keep losing track of my notifications! Yes, Jasper is a mix of something, I have no idea what, I assume Old English Game Bantam and Dutch Bantam? Actually, I have an idea, he's a mix of hormones and a chicken. :D
They are so cute and pretty! I wish I could have some, but we have ran out of room and Seramas are too expensive. At least where I am, they cost about $20-$60 a chick.
I like high-pitched crows, I think they are funny and cute.
I agree, I would suggest to keep your Seramas away from other breeds because they can be easily trampled and beat up with their small size.
That makes sense!
You're welcome! Drakes can be hard to handle so I would recommend starting off with only hens if possible. Which hatchery or breeder are you getting them from?
I wanted to share a random story with all of you. I found it quite hilarious. I know it is going to sound like a lie, but believe me because I saw it and it's real.
I have a Rhode Island Red Bantam named Ruby who I absolutely love and I take her out of the pen so she can have time to free-range...
Wow, I haven't been here in a while!
I hope you feel better!
I used to own ducks. Just for your information, if a drake mates a chicken hen then he will kill her by making her internally bleed out. I don't want to be negative but I always want to warn anyone of that because in my opinion...
Yes, chickens eat sand. They also eat small rocks and other grit that will help them break down their food so it is easier to digest.
It is a good thing that Snape was trying to protect his females, that is always a plus when it comes to having a male. I would flog anything that ran towards me...
