Thank you!
We were watching our 3-seasons breeding pen in case it started collapsing from the back side. Those were the only vulnerable chickens at the time. I highly doubt they could catch a chicken unless trapped, but the damage!! The only thing they did was knock down a suet feeder.
Thank you. Most were out our kitchen window but then I stepped out on the deck to snap a couple really fast, then ran back in. Then I looked. :yesss: got 'em!
You may not need it. But if you're getting chicks or hatching eggs, you'll need somewhere for them to grow out to about 4-5 months, so maybe that'd work for that then. ☺️
We had visitors this morning.
Our dogs (border collie and corgi) were going nuts. I looked out my window and saw the border collie's hair was up, and the corgi ran back toward the house, and barked from there. Then we saw it. The 4 cubs must've been coming up the hill when the dogs scared...
I'm glad others posted as I have no personal experience with mixing breeds.
One thing I know I've read from others is there's safety in numbers, so I wouldn't just get a couple of silkies, I'd get about a half dozen or more of them so if they don't blend too well, they have their own little...
Yes, should be a lot of buffs and some cuckoos and lemon cuckoos, porcelain and crele (the last two I'm not too familiar with), and whatever else she had laying around, no pun. ☺️
I candled them just now to see if I could set them tonight as it's been 15 hours. Yup, air cells looked good of...
Ooh, what a surprise. Look at all those eggs!!
When Bobbi Porto of https://indigoegg.us/ texted me Tuesday that she shipped my 2 dozen eggs, I didn't say a word as it's been so long waiting I didn't want to jinx it. But the P.O. called this morning at 6:05 a.m. to tell me they were there...
Look at that one on the right. We've never gotten one like that. It's got mauve/light markings and a chocolate body. I am so tempted to keep that one, but I shouldn't. ☺️
There's still two in the incubator but here's the latest batch of cuties hatched last night/this morning. Due date was today.
Interestingly, this is the same mauve rooster, the same chocolate hen, Marsha, and a black hen that have been in the breeding pen since I started this, but they just...
We did.
Last night I was watching the chickens heading to the coop. I noticed a 4-month old rooster was pecking very demonstratively on something near the coop so I ran out there. On my way, I realized it was a hen he was beating on. I screamed and clapped my hands as I ran. He wouldn't...
She didn't make it. She had a convulsion and then was gone. I'm livid I was probably sitting right here when it happened and didn't see it. I let Michael know the first chicken I see going too far with another chicken is going.
He feels bad too. I have no other cuckoo hen as her sister...
That said, now I am facing having an "attacked" 3-month-old hen. :(
I didn't see it happen, and it was right in our backyard in broad daylight with our two dogs and a good rooster, all who would have broken this up, and maybe they did, but too late. I didn't see it but hubby was mowing...
I'm so proud that another newly hatched chick out there with supposed wry neck and disjointed hip, magically is better after I convinced the owner to put it back in the incubator for a while. I think sometimes people see deformities on a newly hatched chick and think the worst, take them out...

Partridge was adopted out. She sent photo today. She's leaning...
A story of turnaround.
I've hatched a couple of batches in the past few days. As you might have known or seen, one small batch of eggs I bought was just to get me one bearded/vaulted white silkie hen and rooster.
I found 6 eggs for sale, she sent 7. Shocking that 5 of those hatched, the...
