fuzzi's May (First Time With Shipped Eggs) Hatch-a-Long Thread, all are Welcome!

I still feel like one of these two is a boy and one is a girl, fortunately I have a home for a boy if I end up with one. I will be thrilled if I have as good a hatch as you did, or even if I best the two that I got on the last one

Once those hens have settled in well with their chicks you should be able to house them together

My last batch hatched exactly one day late.

I've never had a hatch too wet - only too dry. So I run typically around 45%, then up to 65% at hatch time. If you feel under a setting hen it is warm and moist - not damp or wet, or dry.

You can add incubator chicks under a broody. I would also recommend waiting until they are dried off, but not much longer - you don't want her to get up off the nest and wander off without them. They will happily make themselves at home, and will not interfere if she has chicks hatching.

I agree, brief interruptions are not much of an issue. But you might want to start checking her a couple times a day, or even consider restricting her to a smaller area.

Great. I've been working on handling them several times a day, when you pick them up they just seem very content

Leia (L) and DV (R). Notice how his color is generally more orangy, and his chipmunk markings are a little smudgy.

You should probably shoot for three to five times a day. They don't have to be at equal time increments , so that might help.

Secretive. Little (I think) male keeps pecking at little (I think) female. His name might have to change to Vader.

I think so. I had eight that made it past the final candling. One pipped but did not progress, and was dead when I opened the egg. The two that hatched pipped and unzipped without any problems at all I left them in the incubator until tomorrow but I don't think I will see any more out of this...

Broody hens are all kinds of grumpy. And leave huge smelly poops! I always make sure I see them off the nest daily (or evict them)

I have eggs pipping in the incubator as we speak :wee After your first candling you may be able to move some of the eggs under the hen.
