I think it's awesome that you tackled this ... and somewhat blindly or without pre-setup, making do with what you had. And then giving yourself only 2 hrs! Okay, that sounds like a lot of fun!! <APPLAUSE!>

You're braver than me! I tried to make mine on a cast iron skillet, but I think I'm too anxious. I tend to put the heat up too high. I'm safer with the electric gadget as long as I keep my fingers off the heat control. A big coffee mug sounds like the perfect size. I have a bunch of the round...

I don't have a "real" griddle. I use a Cuisinart panini griddle that also folds out flat.

    Any Home Bakers Here?

The recipe said that it makes about 16 muffins. So when I first tried this recipe, I weighed the whole thing and divided by 16. Since then, I've been making mine approx. 70-90 grams each. I cut off a piece, weigh it (add or subtract dough 'til it's within that range). Then I shape it into a ball...

Yum! Adapted the King Arthur Flour recipe for English Muffins to whole wheat (thanks to all your help!), and they turned out great!! I used 50% AP flour and 50% whole wheat. They're awesome! Thank you for coming to my rescue!

Good suggestion! I prefer moister dough too. I'll just have to trust my instincts.

Thanks! I actually like using semolina instead on my skillet, but the cornmeal is always there in case I need it! :)

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Hi guys! I haven't visited this thread for months … mostly because I don't normally spend my good-weather months doing any baking. But, I have been making a lot of English muffins lately. They're pretty much are our bread staple, and we are not buying store bread. So, here is my question: I'm...

Made my DH's birthday cake today. This year, he wanted Chocolate Stout Cake. It's a King Arthur Flour recipe found HERE. It's wonderfully delicious, very rich, and quite heavy. Freezes nicely too. :) I must confess that I sort of screwed it up this time. I yanked out my cake pans and didn't...

Very cool! I have a book called Watkins Household Hints. It was printed in 1941 and cost $1.50. It has EVERYTHING -- what gloves to buy for driving cars, how to buy a mattress, gardening, cleaning, laundry hints, cooking ... Totally mind-boggling!
