Yes I would have preferred regular but couldn’t find any, anywhere. I don’t usually stock up on it because it doesn’t last so I just buy a new jar when I’m close to the end of the old one. But that was in the old days before covid panic and the stores emptied of everything :(
There was still...
Yah I’ve been taking notes as I go and I’ve been consistently using 1/2 - 3/4 cup LESS of flour than called for, my house is very dry.
It passed the taste test too! So stretchy this time, like store bought - it just doesn’t smell as yeasty as before, maybe from the pizza yeast
Baked again this weekend; hoarders had bought out baking yeast from every store I tried a few weeks ago, only one had a few little jars of pizza yeast left so I thought why not.
The results:
It mixed well and smelled good as it was rising; I noticed the the dough was a little stiffer this time...
The finished product! Fresh baked bread, half a turkey (homegrown of course!) garden spuds and carrots...I wish I could send you guys the smell along with the pic!
My “apocalypse list”, in order of importance:
Horse meds
Carrots (to hide horse pills)
Chicken food
Dog food
Cat food
More yeast (didn’t really get)
More flour (only two tiny bags)
Extra milk (for the freezer)
Frozen vegetables
We have plenty of meat frozen, and eggs of course, and still lots...
Well according to the googs it’s in smaller pieces, and looking thru the jar I can see that that’s true, it apparently doesn’t need to be proofed either, which also makes sense as I usually mix my regular yeast directly into the dry stuff. But can I proof it anyway? Perhaps I’ll do an experiment...
Hi bakers!
Skipping over the insanity of yesterday’s grocery run, after three stores I got the last jar of pizza yeast. Now, I do make a fair amount of homemade pizza, but has anyone ever used pizza yeast for any type of bread like loaves or rolls? I did google it, but got mixed answers. I trust...
I did it! I baked two beautiful loaves! I followed the recipe from my kitchen aid stand mixer TO THE LETTER, and I took care to punch it down completely after the first rise...voila! Bread perfection! I wish I could show you the whole thing, but we’re savages and couldn’t wait to crack it open.....
I made these yesterday; in case you can’t tell, they’re dinner rolls, and they’re a disgrace. I didn’t punch down the dough enough after the first rise....I will try again today!
