Pure Silkies - Lets play the guessing game!

UPDATE: Ended up with three cockerels and three pullets. I moved on the single combed silkie who was one of the cockerels.

Though big boo one of my pullets has come down with wry neck today. šŸ˜ Supplementing vitamin E and selenium immediately. Sheā€™s not too severe and can still eat and drink and hold her head up normally at times. Though I have separated her from everyone else. She was fine yesterday but I suppose sometimes these things just happen.

Red partridge is a cockerel and so is the grey one. I could tell very early one as they had significant comb and wattle development even. Theyā€™re around nine ish weeks now. They all have names now too!
I WANT THE WHITE ONE! I'm in love with it! And btw I would wait until 18 weeks to decide what you have. My roosters ALWAYS look like hens until 24 to 30 weeks of age. It's HORRIBLE!

I had three pullets and three cockerels, I still have one of the cockerels (ginger) heā€™s getting his crest swoopies and has the worldā€™s biggest wattles and comb and the other three (the girls) have none at all and all the males developed at the same rate as each other so big comb and wattles and also twice the size of theirnd the girls have zero at all. I found this batch is pretty expressive in their sex characteristics even so young, Iā€™m pretty sure this breeders stock is just easier to identify because itā€™s not ā€œshow stockā€ which typically is where the males I find are harder to identify but Iā€™ve always had a knack for telling sex for hard to sex species in general, Iā€™m hardly ever wrong. šŸ˜…

Unfortunately the neighbourā€™s dog dug under my fence (6ft colour bond) and got into my yard and injured the white one (his name was Poseidon) and it killed him, he died of internal bleeding and Iā€™m so freaking mad it happened! I free range my chooks with my own dogs and one of them is a husky x mastiff and heā€™s NEVER tried to harm them. Heā€™s been clumsy and tried to play with them but heā€™s NEVER hurt them and their stupid dog should have never gotten into my highly secure yard! The worst part is, is it was after my dogs not my chooks! He just got caught in the crossfire.

And heā€™s crowing and jumping his sisters, the crow collar is ordered. šŸ˜‚ My older silkie cockerel hasnā€™t even tried and Zeus has already put on his big boy pants.
