Has anyone tried using sodium silicate to preserve eggs? I don't like pickled eggs and was thinking about trying this to preserve some.

I know this is an old post, but wanted to add some information. Water-glassing, was done, originally, with water-glass and water. Water-glass, is Sodium Silicate. I am not sure when Lime started being used. You can find directions in many OLD newspapers, on water-glassing eggs. They direct you to the Pharmacist for the water-glass, and then you add (so much/ all?) 1 quart water-glass to 9 quarts boiled water. I have not read that is is like jello. But this was used extensively in the early 1900's, probably before, and probably for a while after. It's in NYREDS post under the soluble glass label. I've never used it for eggs, just table top war gaming.
