What feather type is this? Not quite frizzle? not quite smooth?

So did you end up with silkied birds out of your smooth birds? That is so awesome so the roo and hens must have been carrying the silkies feather gene! Did any of those end up having the frizzle gene as well? I have a silkie with the frizzle gene and the feathers are kind of weird. I’m going to try to get a pic of him today.

Yes- they are definitely silkied Cochins. Combs are correct, leg/feet/shank colors are correct, beak color, skin color, etc. just silkied feathers. I suspect either someone breed it in way back or the breeder that the roo came from actually had both smooth and silkie Cochins and that the roo was split to silkie even though he had smooth feathers. I have seen a few modified pea combs in this group of chicks, on some of the smooth feathered birds so maybe on the other side (hens) have something else in their background and that is where the feathers come from? Maybe a silkied Americana? There are no beards/muffs so it had to have been a while back or maybe not that breed at all. I'll never know truly. Just moving forward with them as a project. I really like the silkie feathers myself. They are so soft!

I do have frizzles as well. Both in my actual silkie chicks and in the Cochin chicks. Some of silkies are smooth feathered (satins) but also frizzled AND I have a few silkied feathered but also frizzled. Here is one of them (black chick with Silkied Frizzle feathers) the blue chick is a Cochin bantam but with silkie feathers (it's older now, and was one of the chicks pictured in earlier photographs)

Oh they are so cute! And that is such an amazing surprise to get silkied chicks out is smooth birds! What a fun project!! I was going to take a pic of my silkied frizzle guy but someone came yesterday afternoon to take some of my cockerels off of my hands (they are incredibly hard to get rid of around here) and he wanted that one so I gave it to him without having a chance to grab a pic. But it was strange the wing tips were curled but they were just the little middle shaft of the feather like the last 1/2-3/4”. No fluff on or around the curled tips. He was about 8 weeks old. I haven’t ever had a frizzled bird with silkie feathers before so I wasn’t sure if that was a normal thing.
