I work with dogs as well as I just lost one of my own, I have 2 cats and had a flock of 7 chickens who had bad luck (one died of sickness, 4 taken by a fox, all with upper respiratory tract infection) guinea pigs, a bearded dragon and fish.
My ranking from hardest to easiest goes:
1. Dog
2...
My late Irish wolfhound mix came from a bad home with very little socialization/exposure and had a crazy prey drive. She went after anything from a mouse, to wild turkeys to a deer once! I was so worried when I got my chickens and I was convinced she’d chase them but once again she had proved me...
It doesn’t really matter, I will be boundary ecollar training the dog regardless it has a low prey drive or not but Cricket had a high prey drive and was fine with the cats and chickens which is all that mattered.
I’ve met a few wheatens and they were a little weird, I think if I were to get a terrier it’d be a smaller one like a Jack russell or border terrier. Irish terriers are adorable too, definitely one to keep on my list.
Here is Cricket so you guys have an idea as to what she looked like/how big she was.
Here she is with my cousins heeler mix
She was severely dog fear reactive on leash but was ok with off leash with other dogs, had a crazy prey drive, she was human reactive on leash but we quickly trained...
Its always so hard to lose a member of the family, because that’s what pets are. I am so sorry to hear about your loss aswell, sending you much love and light. Rough collies do interest me, I have a friend who has one and he is a lovely little dog.
Yes I know, this is all out of curiosity. Shelters and rehoming are #1 on our list, all of my animals have been rehomed to us: our 2 stray to vet cats, Cricket was rehomed to us and even my late bearded dragon was rehomed to us by my cousin. They really do choose us and I am ever so privileged...
I lost my beloved Cricket 4 days ago when she was hit by a car and died shortly after due to internal bleeding. She was half Irish wolfhound, quarter lab and quarter mastiff at around 70lbs and 24” at the shoulder. She came from a bad home, we only had her for about 15 months and we got her at 2...
I think the solution is easy- keep your cat inside or bring him out on a leash when you can. If your neighbour is feeling other cats, dogs and foxes too that could easily go downhill and result in your cat being killed. And if your neighbour won’t listen then you’re already on the losing side...
Interesting guess! I could see that because of the black muzzle and tan everywhere else but she’s half irish wolfhound, quarter lab and quarter mastiff!
Speaking from a breeding standpoint, you’re best to buy from a reputable breeder after you find a breed that suits your lifestyle and budget and make sure you’re taking all the necessary standpoints to ensure this dog will be ok with birds and cats. Some breeds do have a higher prey drive which...
I know there are quite a few dog fanatics here (me included) so I’m curious to see what you guys think Cricket is! We got her last year from my grandmas neighbour who got her from a friend of a friend who’s dog had puppies (eye roll). I know her breeds but I just want to see what you guys think...
Here is my bearded dragon Chimera (named after the ancient Greek mythological beast)! I got her for Christmas in 2015 and she was previously my cousins lizard. I spent hours surfing websites, forums, youtube and I even have a few reptile books just to make sure I knew what I was getting into...
