Today I had let our momma hen and babies out of the garage brooder- first time since they hatched a couple weeks ago… I did physically look over each chick as I took them out of the brooder before I put them in the pen out in the yard with momma, so I know for a fact that puncture was not there…...

I was actually kinda wondering the same thing about the mycoplasma after just now reading about it on a couple different veterinary/avian sites…what I had read was that it can basically also be airborne from wild birds and rodents, as well as it can stay in your hair and on your skin for upwards...

That was pretty much what I had in mind as well- making a hardware cloth removable basket, then maybe lined with some of that grippy shelving stuff- just cause I wasn’t sure how warm the hardware cloth would be and feel to newly hatched chicks laying and walking on it 🤷‍♀️ Thank you!

I ordered a reptile cabinet style incubator today and I knew prior to ordering that I’d need to modify it a little bit before use… just wondering if anyone has used one and what they used to modified it… my main thing is the slots in the shelves as well as the front to keep the chicks secure...
