Worst mite infestation I've ever seen!

I dealt with lice a number of years ago. These are definitely Northern Fowl mites. Just like last time they are on the chickens during the day and I found a few on the eggs in the nesting boxes. I'm hoping this is worse in the barn with the broody and the coop is a few days or a week behind...

Worst mite infestation I've ever seen!

OMG I've never seen so many mites. A Buff Orpington hen is sitting on 7 eggs in a little box in the barn. I checked her yesterday morning and didn't notice anything. This morning she was off the nest so I quickly went in to candle all 7 eggs. After candling I started walking over to the coop...

Would a rooster help stop pecking amongst hens?

Roosters will break up fights but won't dictate pecking order. That being said, I wish you were closer and I could give you one of my roosters.

2 yr old Roo Injured or Sick?

Oh yes, I've been contemplating getting rid of this very guy for two years now. In fact, I tried to give him away last summer but no takers. I should have sent him to freezer camp when I sent three others last fall. He's so good with his hens I hesitated. I have 39 hens, so I thought three...

2 yr old Roo Injured or Sick?

My 2 year old roo started hunching over with his head down in the corner of the yard two days ago. I put him in a crate, gave him yogurt and olive oil and raw egg mixed with water. He took everything I offered but I had to hold his head and put the food in his mouth. He wasn't injured, didn't...

    Chicken about to die?

Aw, I hope she rallies. Egg bound? Does she have a messy butt?

One of our Buff Orpington Chickens has been losing a lot of her back feathers, any idea as to what's happening?

Instead of building on, can you build up? Chickens will roost at the highest level so perhaps raise the coop up 2 ft and add a level underneath with ramps going from one level to the next. Maybe sand in the middle level? Something like this?

Maybe something like this, that you put up against your existing coop so the hens can see eachother without bullying because they're separated by the screening.

adult pekin female with splayed legs and difficulty walking -- ideas, advice?

I've splinted chicken, duck and turkey legs using the same method as @CoriM with great success. Depending on the size of the bird, you can use popsicle sticks in between the legs - that gives stability and helps displace weight. The only issue splinting with ducks is that you have to change the...

One of our Buff Orpington Chickens has been losing a lot of her back feathers, any idea as to what's happening?

I had a therapy chicken that was a buff (yes you read that correctly, a therapy chicken) and she was at the bottom of the pecking order. She was always missing feathers from being bullied. We eventually made her a separate but adjacent enclosure next to the rest of the hens. The last year...

Raccoon attack in daytime I caught a raccoon with my barred rock he

Good job bandaging her up! I recommend keeping the bandages on her so you don't end up with a fly strike.

Bloody Beak - what is this and how to treat?

what about triple antibiotic or is that too close to the nose?

Bloody Beak - what is this and how to treat?

That's what I'm wondering. I don't use blukote on the face, so I wonder if anyone knows of an antibiotic that can be used on the beak like that. Yes Duct tape. As long as you can get something on the wound, put a small bit of gauze and then a square of duct tape, just big enough to cover...

Bloody Beak - what is this and how to treat?

I wonder if you could put blukote on it or another antibiotic and cover it. Duct tape works great.
