Aww sorry to hear about your kids. My entire family is sick right now too. My fever broke yesterday and now I have terrible ear pain. Lucky my sore throat is going down.
Oh my goodness how cute is that?? Mine won't start to pip until tomorrow the earliest. We are just starting day 19 here but with regular size eggs not bantams. I will need to be patient a bit longer.
I have 7 eggs Brown Leghorn roo over Easter eggers hens. 13 eggs Delaware and Delaware roo over Golden Laced Wyandotte hens.
I am particularly in love with the brown leghorn rooster. He's been my favorite. I eagerly await a son from him.
How exciting! We just locked down this morning. Day 18 here. I'm testing a total dry hatch. My bathroom is around 55% humidy. I don't want to overdo the humidy so I'm letting them dry hatch and I closed the door and steamed up the room with hot shower. It's easier to control the room than water...
Can chicks hatch in the 40% range without getting shrink wrapped? Or does it need to be in the 50% range?
I'm talking about lockdown here. We are on day 18 tomorrow.
Good grief that was an intense read!! My first chicks will be hatching next weekend and now I'm terrified of something going wrong. Luckily my incubator is in the bathroom and I have tweezers and everything else I need right there at arms reach. I am so glad your chick made it. That's unbelievable.
So the Easter eggers seem to have larger size air cells for the most part. My Delaware and Wyandottes have what seems like smaller air cells. I am dry hatching with a high room humidity.
Bathroom 55%
Govee inside incubator 32-35%
Day 10. I know bigger air cell sizes means that they need a little...
Yes I read a lot about humidity with incubation and hatching. I saw a lot of times chicks drown with higher humidity. I bought a set of 2 Govee hygrometers. One is in my bathroom and one is inside the incubator. That way I can keep track of the ambient room humidity. It's so nasty and humid here...
I am new to hatching but I wanted to also mention perhaps the humidity is too high. Your room humidity might be playing into extra humidity inside with the eggs. I read that chicks that are fully formed without hatching can sometimes drown from too high of humidity. Maybe also look into dry...
