    Peckin duck Leg Issue

Okay, best of luck to you and your girl. I kept the hobbles on and vitamins going until she was fully strong, and then a little beyond with the vitamin. After that you can add brewers or nutritional yeast to their food to get added niacin. Let us know how it goes!

    Peckin duck Leg Issue

If at all possible I would have a vet look at her just to see what's going on - maybe it's out of joint or something. I can tell you how to hobble it but if there's a break or injury you don't want her walking on it. Had she been getting better over the course of the last two weeks with the...

Ideas for a muddy duck pen

What I have done which works for me and I see you have lots of grass so could do something similar, is built a moveable tractor that I move around the grass so they always have a fresh clean area. It's not completely predator proof, so I only have them in there when I'm around to supervise...

    Loner duck?

Just keep an eye on her. I have one duck who was pretty independent and always just seemed to be doing her own thing. Nothing was wrong with her, it's just her personality!

    Breeding ducks

Let us know what you have - definitely a male and female? Males have a tail curl and a whispery, raspy voice and females have no tail curl and a quack. Females practice mating with each other all the time. If you have one of each you will have to keep a close eye to make sure your female is not...

Indian Runner still has not had full molt

Just an update....after the implant my duck stopped laying right away. It's been about a month and she still hasn't laid. She started a hard molt a few weeks ago and her new feathers are growing in nicely. I'm really glad that we tried it.

Did I layer my duck run ok?

If you can cover your run it will help a lot! Gives them shade and protection from rain and weather, and keep whatever you put down dry.

Happy to help - someone here helped me with my first pekin 5 years ago and it was a happy success!

    Niacin Deficiency in Waterfowl

Give her 1 ml a day over treats. And if you're not sure she's getting the full amount, err on giving her more - you can't overdose, their body won't retain it. Do it every day probably until she's fully feathered, then if her issues are gone you can switch to brewers or nutritional yeast...

    Bumblefoot and overmating

I also had tried Prid before, which is a drawing solution, but never worked. Give this a try, and if the swelling goes down you could switch to just using the toothbrush and colorless iodine without bandages. Good luck!

    Bumblefoot and overmating

Well you have to do what you think best on observing the situation. I will tell you though that the poultice is great because it stays on the foot the whole time it's bandaged. See this thread - it's how I first heard about it and have been using it ever since...

    Bumblefoot and overmating

No worries, I wouldn't cut into it, maybe just use your fingernail and pick off the tiny scab so there's a place that the poultice can work into. I strongly recommend the epsom salt poultice! I would keep it covered with that swabbed on for a majority of the day and then leave it off for...

    Bumblefoot and overmating

That's how my girl that's been sitting is as well - if all her friends are outside she just covers the eggs and gets up to play and forgets about them.

    Bumblefoot and overmating

If that were my duck I would probably make sure I had an area where she could keep her feet dry after wrapping. I would start again with the big swelling on the middle toe, pull the scab, squeeze out whatever gunky stuff you can get, and pack with triple antibiotic ointment the first day, gauze...
