UPDATE: we found a good home for our rooster! We are delivering him today to the farm of a 4/H kid who has 16 hens for this grand bou to look after! I am learning people DO want roosters , i just have to be patient about the rehoming process! ❤️❤️❤️
Looking to rehome our rooster to someone with...
I just have to report… moved 4x7week old and 4 x4 week olds out to the brooder in the coop. Used the look but dont touch method to introduce them to everyone. The ROOSTER has been a KING … I’ve watched him drag hens away from the babies when the hens want to peck at them. I’ve watched him corral...
Using the NR360.. it’s been very consistent I have been very happy with it. Hoping that we dont have any of the problems we had with our cheapy incubator we hatched the last 5 in. Will document More hatching and developments here. These are Easter Egger / Lav Orpington mix (5) and Welsummer/Lav...
Just wanted a place to show how these develop. As i have searched for this and there aren’t any examples. these birds are 2 weeks old. This is a Lavender Orpington Rooster with Welsummer Hen barnyard mix. Last 2 pics are the parents of these …
Im starting this thread just to document what happens with my first ever incubation. I have already made MANY mistakes which i will list out. First mistake, took the VERY early eggs from my hens. Like egg #3 and up … eggs one and two: i used to check fertility - i have 3 hens.. so 6 eggs.. 5 out...
So im just curious how ya’ll come up with your names. I found that the chicken names changed from when they were babies. I tried to be cute and punny about naming them at the beginning - and then later on - their personality showed that they were named wrong. PLUS my roosters had female...
My gal, an Easter Egger, we thought, might actually be an olive egger, laid her first egg today! She immediately left the nest to go have an extended dust bath :lau…. So i went and snatched the egg .. its PERFECT. It’s a good sized egg! And roundish - so i want to put it in the incubator. What...
Hi all. My flock is 17 weeks old. The males are: totally males. Crowing. Herding. Luckily they all get along. (So far) they were all in the brooder together so im hopeful the pecking order can keep everyone in check. Last night 2 hens began making new vocalizations - and acting a bit sluggish...
Check out my male and jury is still out on if thats a pullet.. comb and wattle paler and smaller, 12 weeks and the cock is just about learning to crow! Potential pullet hangs with other hens and does not vocalize!
Can not wait to hatch a few next year!
Would loveyour expert idea about sex .. I already have 2 roosters and not enough hens…
Also what do you think of segregating my 2nd roo until i can hatch it some of its own hens? I was thinking of a simple dog house/fence for it? I raised it from birth at tractor supply hahaha. Cant...
