    Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

Ours is often damp. We could dry it out by running a dehumidifier for about 5+ months a year, but that gets pricey. I run it at times in the most humid parts of the summer. This is the year we're going to get all the junk/crap out of the basement and make it useable space. (It could happen...)...

First time with onions and garlic - Questions

My last year's garlic (hardneck, Music variety) is gone, so I am eager for this year's harvest. I have been planting cloves from my own harvest now for several years... maybe 6? 8? all of the Music variety. Last fall, I ordered a pound of another, German White. Judging by the taste of the (raw)...

Correct Feed for Hen with Chicks?

This will be fine. You could start giving her the chick starter now. She isn't laying, so she will probably ignore the oyster shell until she needs it again.

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Hot tomorrow, and then a few days after, back to 70. :yesss: I'll bake another loaf of bread then. My GF bread stays sandwich-soft for about 3 days. After that, it's toast. :lau

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

This is Middle, one of my black Australorps. Middle makes a cute noise when I sing the Chickie Snack song. She says, "OHHHHHH!" with a lyrical rising and falling inflection. She's the only one who does it.

What did you do in the garden today?

We'll probably see them in 2-3 weeks. That would be two weeks early, but everything is early this year. I have Green Beauty (seeds from a friend) that are about 2 feet tall and blooming. The flowers are different colors! Pink, darker pink, bluish, and a deep blue.

Name 3 Things You Did Or Will Do Today - 2024

The workout is on the elliptical, so got that covered! I looked for asparagus beetles today, and found VERY few of the grub things that their eggs hatch into. I am cautiously optimistic about this! My diligence is paying off! I got the crates put away and the garden pots cleaned. I thought the...

First time with onions and garlic - Questions

Yummy! I ate a garlic scape on the way back from the garden, and it tastes pretty strong. They get milder when they're cooked. I had some in my stir fried rice for dinner.

First time with onions and garlic - Questions

You can cut them, or let them grow another day or two. I read that you should cut them when they spiral into a full circle. If you let them keep growing, they get tough and stringy. I'll be cutting some tomorrow!
